2026 Yankees Late-June Slump Continues as They Lose Five Straight
The New York Yankees have certainly hit their low point of the 2026 season as they’ve lost their last five games, including Monday night’s devastating blowout 7-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Since June 18th, New York has lost 10 of their last 12 games, as it’s clearly apparent they’re missing Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Max Fried, who are still on the IL. This crushing loss also featured another Yankee being injured as Jazz Chisholm Jr. left the game at the top of the fourth inning after brutally colliding with teammate Jasson Dominguez. Both were trying to catch a fly ball that was in shallow right field when Dominguez’s elbow struck Chisholm Jr.’s head. New York will hope their two-time all-star returns as soon as possible after this poor miscommunication between teammates. On Tuesday, Cam Schlittler will get the start against last year’s American League Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal.
Yankees Can’t Catch a Break
During the loss, the Yankees recorded just three hits and allowed two errors. On Sunday night, New York fought back hard to come back from a 2-0 deficit, only to give up the lead and lose, allowing themselves to be swept by the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park. In addition to almost being no-hit for most of the game on Monday and being swept in Boston, the loss of Chisholm Jr. hurts the Yankees’ offense even more. New York will look for their young guys to step up during this rough stretch, which may be asking a lot. Paul Goldschmidt hasn’t recorded a hit in the past four games, while Ben Rice hasn’t hit the ball in New York’s last five outings. Rookie Spencer Jones recorded two of the Yankees’ three hits on Monday. The Yankees simply can’t catch a break as their late-June slump continues.
Weathers’ Worst Outing of 2026
Yankees starting pitcher Ryan Weathers had his worst start of the 2026 season on Monday night. He pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, two of which were earned runs on seven hits, in addition to giving up a walk. Weathers pitched three and two-thirds innings back on April 4th against the Miami Marlins, but this start against the Tigers was clearly a start the 26-year-old will want to forget. Now, Weathers is 3-6 on the year with a 4.08 ERA through 16 starts. He’ll need to turn things around quickly before the 2026 MLB All-Star Game approaches.
