24-Year-Old Center Re-signs with Grizzlies

NBA

Santi Aldama was drafted as the 30th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz and then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Santi has proven himself to be a key role player when the Memphis Grizzlies have needed him. Today, it was announced that the center has re-signed with the Grizzlies on a three-year, $52.5 million deal. His length and shooting had provided key plays and minutes for the Grizzlies, especially when they had to overcome a deficit in the playoffs.  He averaged 13 points per game in the 2025 NBA Playoffs and provided shooting when needed, particularly when Zach Edey got himself in foul trouble.

Santi, being a young free agent, is an excellent addition to any team's core. The young superstar Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr, and others greatly benefited from his contributions. He will provide a different lineup coming off the bench. Santi ranks as one of the top defenders on help defense in the NBA. He can provide quick rotations and shot contests, great fits for defensive plays. It will also make this Grizzlies team one of the top-scoring teams in the league. During the regular season, he averaged almost 13 points per game and will look to continue his recent trend of success with the Grizzlies as they look to make the playoffs again next season.

A catch-and-shoot option, he will also showcase his underrated playmaking skills that we saw glimpses of during the regular season. Santi would be the tallest player on the court on most teams. Providing the coverage in case a starting center gets into foul trouble or is ejected. The acquisition allows the Grizzlies to keep the up-and-coming role player on his new deal. This will undoubtedly improve his new team and add great length and streaky shooting to their lineup. Santi blends with his team-first culture and size will significantly benefit the team. It won’t make a team an instant title contender, but it will at least make them a step closer to being one. Now he looks to adjust and increase his play even more next season.
