Aaron Glenn Reveals New York Jets’ Plan for Second-Year Receiver

NFL

Jets receiver Malachi Corley’s rookie season was nothing short of a disappointment. The first year was often a healthy scratch, appearing in only 9 games while logging three receptions for 26 yards. His season will be best remembered by his blunder on Halloween against the Houston Texans, where he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line, resulting in a touchback and turnover. On Tuesday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told the media how the team plans to deploy him differently this coming season.

When asked about the young receiver after an OTA practice that was open to the media, Glenn recounted the scouting report from when he was in Detroit. “Here’s what I remember from Corley. His ability to get the ball in his hands and make something happen,” said Glenn. According to the new head coach, the coaching staff plans to do just that. “When you have a player like that, the first thing you think about is screens, you think about punt return, kick return, you think about things like that.” Corley had 995 total all-purpose yards in 2023 with Western Kentucky while averaging 8.8 yards after catch per reception, earning him the title “YAC King”.

Corley is unfortunately behind the eight ball with this new staff and their offense, as he has been dealing with an injury and has not been able to get on the field during camp. Due to this, the coaches are still trying to figure out specifics with packages and plays. Glenn said that they still “have a ways to go to really try to figure out exactly where we’re going to place him, because he’s been in-and-out, that’s just what it is.” He did specify that there is indeed a plan in place for Corley and that the staff will be working to get Corley back to his collegiate form. “There's a plan for him, and we’re going to make sure that we try to utilize him to what he can do best, and we’ve seen that in college and hopefully he gets well soon, and we get a chance to utilize his skill set.”
