A Disgruntled Commander Converting to a Saint?
It is currently being accepted that the New Orleans Saints are in the process of rebuilding their team. Every possible pick, every rumor, and every mention is being debated by sports analysts and among fantasy leagues. It’s also well-known that the Saints continue to have a lot of positions that need to be filled even before next month’s preseason games. One of those essential positions is that of wide receiver to provide them with enough time to work with the new quarterbacks when they officially take to the field in September. The scouts should look to their competition to recruit anyone who may be dissatisfied with their current working environment. In this case, the Saints coaching staff should look into speaking with WR Terry McLaurin, currently of the Washington Commanders.
For the past six seasons, the Washington Commanders have had Mr. McLaurin on their team. He began his professional football career by being drafted 76th overall in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season of starting as a wide receiver in the 14 games he played, Terry had 919 receiving yards from 58 receptions and seven touchdowns, which resulted in him being honored by being added to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team. He would follow the next season with starting in the 15 games he played during which he would increase to 1,118 receiving yards from 87 receptions, but with only four touchdowns. Combining his 2021 to 2024 seasons for 68 starts to the same number of games would add 4,342 receiving yards from 352 receptions and scoring 27 touchdowns. After six seasons of 97 games and starts for Washington, “Scary” would yield an average of 13.9 yards per reception, 300 first downs, and a 53% receiving success rate.
When you look at the stats, you can see that Mr. McLaurin is still be in the prime of his professional career. This 29-year-old has proven that he can produce results week after week and season after season for his team. You could almost refer to him as “Reliable Terry” because of what he has accomplished throughout his NFL career. While the other teams throughout the league are focused on developing their new batch of inexperienced players they acquired during the draft, the Saints can bring in this player who would likely look forward to the opportunity to bring his experiences to this team. If he felt he was being restricted in his role while on the Commanders, he could request the Saints for more flexibility as a wide receiver as part of his contract. He could also have the benefit of being able to have more of a say when it comes to the plays called by the rookie quarterback. New Orleans sounds like a great place for this disgruntled player who needs to be acquired immediately.
