Aaliyah Chavez: New Face of the Oklahoma Women's Basketball Team
Aaliyah Chavez is a five-foot-ten point guard from Monterey High School located in Lubbock, Texas. Chavez is a 2025 graduate and is one of the top recruits for NCAA Women's Basketball. With five NCAA offers, specifically from Arkansas, Arizona, Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma, she chose the Oklahoma Sooners to continue her passion for basketball. The Sooners' record was 27-8, and they are currently ranked 11th in the NCAA. During the season, the Sooners lost to Duke, Texas, Mississippi St, LSU, Kentucky, UConn, and twice to South Carolina.
Rated as the number one player in class 5A, Chavez’s stats demonstrate her skills that led her to commit to the Oklahoma Sooners 2025-2026 program. As a Freshman, Chavez accumulated 1001 career points, 1020 points as a Sophomore, 1324 as a Junior, and 1421 points as a senior, equaling 4,766 points total in her four years at Monterey. Not only is Chavez a beast when it comes to shooting, but she also helped her team in many other ways. Specifically, she gained 329 offensive rebounds, 951 defensive rebounds, 770 assists, 478 steals, and 133 blocks in her four years at Monterey. This demonstrates that Chavez not only is a top scorer but also a team player.
Chavez's commitment to the Sooners comes as no surprise. She created a strong relationship with the coaching staff, liked the fast-paced playing style, and the family-like environment. In addition, Chavez has aspirations to contribute to Oklahoma's desire to win a national championship. As the number one recruit, Chavez may turn into the next star up there with Caitlyn Clark to continue to contribute to NCAA women's basketball.
Not only will Chavez be a star this upcoming season, but other incoming freshmen will make an impact. Head Coach Jennie Baranczyk has recruited three others to the team's dynamic structure. Keziah Lofton, a four-star guard, has committed to the Sooners. Brooklyn Stewart, a four-star forward, and Emma Tolan, an Irish International forward, have also committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. With such recruits, the Sooners will continue to be a tough team to battle against.
The upcoming season does not start until December 3rd, when the Sooners will compete against NC State for the SEC/ACC Challenge. The SEC Home Opponents are Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. The SEC Away Opponents are Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Texas, and Texas A&M. You can purchase tickets to watch the Sooners in action, so make sure to save the date.
