Aaron Rodgers to Battle Former Team in 2025 NFL Showdown
Two years after their breakup, the revenge game between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers is officially on the calendar. A pair that used to go together like cheese and crackers will now take the field against each other on October 26, 2025, at Acrisure Stadium. Any uncertainty about Rodgers’ future has been put to rest with a newly signed one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The contract sets up a matchup that will mark Jordan Love’s first time going head-to-head with his former mentor.
Rodgers’ most recent team, the New York Jets, released him in March 2025, making him a free agent for the first time in his career. His time in New York amounted to just one season and four plays, which was far from the success the Jets had envisioned, ultimately leading to their mutual split. Now, he’s hoping to leave a better taste in everyone’s mouth than whatever went down in New York. Pittsburgh will be Rodgers’ new home and potentially his final stop as he looks to finish his career strong before riding off into retirement.
"I've been around a lot of Pittsburgh people over the years, and I have loved my time with all of them," Rodgers said in 2021 on the Pat McAfee Show. "I have learned to speak the language really well... It's a great blue-collar town. It's got a lot of history, that city. Mike Tomlin, been there forever... I have a ton of respect for Mike, I think he's a fantastic coach, I love the way that he leads, I love the way that he talks after games, he also seems to keep things really even-keeled, and it looks like he's somebody that the players love playing for."
Aaron Rodgers’ one Super Bowl win came against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and now he will be chasing another with his former Super Bowl opponent. Aaron Rodgers traded his green and gold for black and gold to get a chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy one more time before he finally hangs up his pads. However, there was a stint in between with the Jets that no one wants to acknowledge. At one point, Rodgers had hoped to bring another Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay, but those dreams faded more than two years ago. Now, the Packers hope not only to win on the road, but to earn a victory in their first game against the bad man himself.
