Aces and Wings Face Off in First Preseason Game

The WNBA Preseason tipped off Friday with an exciting matchup between the Las Vegas Aces and Dallas Wings at the University of Notre Dame. The Aces put on a dominant performance, winning 112–78 in a game that held special significance for several players. Dalla Wings star Arike Ogunbowale and Aces recent acquisition Jewell Loyd, as well as Aces guard Jackie Young, returned to their alma mater. Fans at Purcell Pavilion were treated to a reunion of these Notre Dame alumni, all of whom left their mark on the game. The match also offered a preview of the team’s early-season form, giving a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming season.

One of the standout moments came halfway through the first quarter when rookie Paige Bueckers scored her first-ever points in the WNBA, a major milestone in her career. Bueckers finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds, showing promise in her debut. On the other hand, Jackie Young led the Aces with an exceptional performance, scoring twenty-eight points, including a perfect thirteen for thirteen from the free-throw line, while also contributing nine assists. Young’s dominant effort was a key factor in the Aces’ success, as she helped drive their dominance over the Wings, especially in the second quarter.

The Aces’ performance in the second quarter was particularly impressive, as they outscored the Wings 32–11, establishing a dominant lead that they maintained throughout the game. Rookie Aaliyah Nye from Alabama was another bright spot for the Aces, finishing with 17 points, including an impressive six for eleven from beyond the arc. Nye’s sharp shooting added depth to the Aces’ already strong starting five, further demonstrating their strength heading into the season. With this victory, the Aces sent a clear message to the rest of the league, showing that they are ready to start the season on a strong note.

This preseason game showcased both the Aces’ veteran leadership and emerging talent. Jackie Young’s dominance and Aaliyah Nye’s impressive shooting performance highlighted the team’s depth, while A’ja Wilson continued to be a steady force on both ends of the court. Meanwhile, Paige Bueckers’ debut with the Wings offered a promising look at the rookie’s potential. As the Aces and Wings continue to build chemistry, this game provided valuable insight into their respective growth and set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
