All About Tottenham’s New 2026 Interim Coach
To say things have not been looking great for Tottenham Hotspur would be an understatement. Having tied or lost the past six Premier League games, the Spurs have certainly not had the season of a lifetime. In the last ten years, Tottenham has held a solid position in the Premier League, consistently placing among the first eight teams and even earning podium finishes from time to time. However, for the last two seasons, the team has not seemed in the same shape; despite winning the UEFA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League, the Spurs finished 17th in last season’s Premier League and, to date, remain in an unpromising 16th place. In what seemed like a desperate attempt to improve the team’s standings, Tottenham decided to fire manager Thomas Frank and hire ex-Juventus coach Igor Tudor. The question of whether or not he is up to the task seems to be of utmost concern to the fans.
Tudor, the fatefully appointed captain of what seems to be a sinking ship, has had his fair share of jobs throughout the last decade or so. Once a defensive midfielder for Juventus, he retired in 2008 after an ankle injury. The former Croatian national team member, who began his coaching career in 2013, has managed 10 different teams in five different countries, with the UK being his sixth. His most notable achievements include preventing Udinese Calcio from falling into Serie B, a top ten Serie A finish for Hellas Verona, and a third-place result for Marseille in the Ligue. The coach was fired twice from Juventus, first as an assistant in 2021 and later as head coach in 2025. Overall, he has been let go three times during his career and has never lasted more than two years at any team. It is a good thing the Spurs only hired him as an interim until the end of this season.
What happens next could be Tudor’s first major success, or just another team to write down in what is looking like an extremely long resume. As of now, Tottenham has to do everything in its power to avoid relegation, which falls upon teams placing 20th, 19th, and 18th on the Premier League table. The stakes require Tudor to completely change the team’s luck. Tottenham’s expectations for the newly appointed interim coach were made clear through a public statement, which pointed out the strengths and objectives of the Croatian manager. “Tudor’s mandate is straightforward: bring organization, intensity, and competitive edge to the squad at a decisive stage of the campaign.” For the fans’ sake, hopefully, this will be Tudor’s redemption.
