Angels End 2025 Road Schedule in Defeat at Colorado

MLB

The Los Angeles Angels fell short of a win on Sunday in the final road game of the 2025 season, losing 3-1 against the Colorado Rockies. A quick start for the Angels' offense put the Angels up early, providing some hope that the game would go in their favor, but a quick change in Colorado’s pitch sequencing shut the Angels down. Combine the Angels' quiet bats with the Rockies taking advantage of some great at-bats and timely hitting, and the Halos were going to have a difficult time coming back. The loss puts the Angels' record at 70-86, with a final road split of 33-48 on the year.

The day started with Mike Trout, who celebrated a historic milestone last night, with a double that set up the first run of the day when Jo Adell brought in the Angels' first and only run of the game. It was tough for the Angels to figure out Kyle Freeland on the mound for the Colorado Rockies. After Freeland surrendered a run in the first, he started to figure things out. By using his fastball and cutters to get ahead in the count, Freeland changed speeds with his knuckle curve and sweeper to keep the batters off-balance. Freeland struck out seven Halo batters, surrendering one run on five hits en route to victory over the Angels.

The lackluster offense blew up the opportunity for the Angels to take advantage of a strong start for Caden Dana. Even in the loss, Dana had his best outing of the season, with six innings of work, striking out five Rockies, allowing two runs on just three hits. Dana’s day on the mound was spoiled when he allowed back-to-back walks in the second inning, giving Colorado a chance to tie the game with an RBI sacrifice fly by Kyle Karros. Later, in the fourth inning, Dana was punished after attempting to get the high fastball past Blaine Crim, who was not fooled, and sent a high fastball from Dana into centerfield for the go-ahead home run. With starting pitching being a prevalent issue for the Angels the whole year, seeing Dana perform well offers a glimpse into the future.

The loss was another frustrating one for the Halos. The 2025 season was supposed to be a year that began with hopes of a young core getting an opportunity to make a statement. Instead, it has become a year marked by injuries, mistakes, managerial changes, and even a front office that genuinely believed the team had a chance at success, despite everyone else's doubts. The Angels now head back to Anaheim for the final homestand of the 2025 season to welcome the Kansas City Royals for a three-game series on Tuesday. What to look out for: Adell is four RBIs short of a hundred RBIs on the season, and Angels prospect Sam Aldegheri is poised to get his first start for the Angels since July 8th, against Texas.
