Are the New York Giants Shopping at a Higher Market in 2026?

NFL

The New York Football Giants are spending their offseason working to rebuild a roster that has not been headed in the direction they have wanted for a while. Recently, they have re-signed players who have made a difference for Big Blue and let those who have made mistakes on the field under former coach Brian Daboll go. Now that John Harbaugh has stepped in to take the reins in New York, the Super Bowl-winning head coach is going through the team to see what he wants on his roster. That means shopping at a hire market during this offseason. Big Blue has taken its time to figure out who they need to pick up in this year's 2026 NFL Draft and who they can add to their roster in the free agency market. There are plenty of big names that the Giants can grab. However, there are certain factors this team needs to take the time to look into before picking anyone up or signing anyone else.

The Giants most recently got their cap space for this coming year. Roughly, they have between five million and $12 million to work with as they entered the 2026 offseason. This puts them right in the middle of the league and not at a high rate, looking for players they are interested in or who have shown interest in playing in the Big Apple. Having this much cap space does make it more difficult for Big Blue to sign top-tier players. They have no choice but to look into players' lower prices.

New York has also spent time restructuring contracts during this offseason. They have made moves, such as releasing players like Bobby Okereke, to free up cap space and try to bring in more players. The Giants want to have more than they can work with this coming season. The Giants need to have that flexibility in time for the draft so they know who they can pick up. They can also keep their eye out for players who are in free agency that Harbaugh could bring in.

Reports and analysts say this team is avoiding the top tier. That isn’t the case; they just don’t have the cap space to bring in those who are explosive. The Giants have plenty of explosive players this upcoming season. They just need to find those who will fit into the puzzle Harbaugh is trying to put together for the new year. The Giants have been on a losing streak for a while, and it’s definitely time to make a turnaround. Harbaugh is doing the best he can and continues to build around his bigger players, such as quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers. He wants players who will get the ball into their hands and score the touchdowns that this young team has failed to score in the last several seasons.

There are rumors that the Giants are targeting certain players like Kenneth Walker III, but the Giants aren’t really into the running back market this year. Once Cam Skattebo comes back, he should be as good as new. He may take some time to make sure that he is ready to go for the season, but the Giants already have their minds set on what they want. They want reasonably priced players who will make a difference. They are not top-tier spenders this time around. They know what they want, and with Harbaugh stepping in and taking over this season, it should be much better, cap-wise. They want value in the draft, not a high price tag.
