Atlantic Division Tension Rises as Knicks Meet Raptors

NBA

The New York Knicks, who boast a 39-22 record, head north to face the Toronto Raptors, who possess a 35-25 record, at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night, March 3rd, in what figures to be an intense Atlantic Division battle. New York comes in riding momentum after a blowout defensive performance that ended the Spurs’ 11-game win streak with a 114-89 victory, led by Mikal Bridges’ 25 points and stellar playmaking from Jalen Brunson. The Knicks have been one of the more balanced teams in the Eastern Conference. They have combined elite perimeter defense with opportunistic scoring, and they’ll need both to slow a Raptors roster that’s capable of high offensive output.

While the Knicks posture as Eastern Conference contenders, one key trend this season has been their dominance over Toronto. New York has won every head-to-head meeting this season, including a decisive 116-94 home victory on November 30, 2025. It was a game in which Josh Hart put up 20 points with 12 rebounds and seven assists, and Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 points on top of a stout rebounding presence. That result underscored New York’s ability to outmatch Toronto in the paint and on the glass, a recurring theme that Toronto must disrupt to have a shot at victory.

The Knicks will rely heavily on their all-star point guard, who continues to lead New York’s offense with high usage and efficiency. Brunson is still averaging nearly 27 points per game and exerting control as both a scoring and assist threat. Towns’ interior presence and rebounding prowess further anchor the Knicks, while Bridges’ lockdown defense will be key on the wings. OG Anunoby also contributes across the board when healthy, giving the Knicks a deeper rotation than most Eastern Conference rivals.

On the Raptors’ side, Scottie Barnes has been a versatile force, averaging robust numbers in points, rebounds, and assists, and his defensive instincts will be crucial against New York’s multifaceted attack. Toronto has also leaned on Brandon Ingram’s scoring, typically in the 20-point range. Additionally, the backcourt playmaking of Immanuel Quickley, who can heat up quickly and change the momentum of a game with his scoring bursts. The Raptors have shown competitiveness in recent weeks and are capable of explosive offensive nights if they find spacing and tempo, especially at home.

Injuries will be something to monitor, as both teams have dealt with absences throughout the year, but the edge in depth may favor the Knicks if they can keep their key role players active and engaged. Ultimately, this matchup may come down to how well Toronto defends the perimeter and contests Brunson’s playmaking while limiting second-chance points in the paint. If New York executes its defensive schemes and feeds Towns inside, as it has in their past wins, the Knicks could maintain their Atlantic Division superiority. Raptors fans, however, will be hoping for a strong home crowd performance and breakout scoring from Barnes and Ingram to snap Toronto’s multi-game skid against New York.
