Big Blue Falls to Washington in Week One
The New York Football Giants fell to the Washington Commanders in their first game of the 2025 season. The game began at 1:00 p.m. ET today, and it all went downhill from there. Everything that could have gone wrong for New York in this game went wrong. They finished the game with a final score of 21-6. Here are a few areas where the Giants struggled in their first game. It wasn’t a terrible game, but it was not a great game either.
The Giants' biggest area of struggle was within the offensive line. Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson was today's starting quarterback, and he took hit after hit when it came to trying to make the plays. The Giants struggled all around in trying to make any plays happen, and only had fewer than three drives where they got the ball to move down the field during the entire game. The offensive line couldn’t save their quarterback at all, either. Wilson kept getting thrown to the ground, and the only time he was actually able to get the team down the field was in the last few moments of the fourth quarter. An area that they could have strived in if they had started this rhythm earlier in the game.
The other area that the Giants really struggled in for today’s game was within the red zone. The Giants seemed to have it under control when they were able to move the ball. However, when it came to getting it into the red zone, the one time that they actually did, the Giants struggled to make ends meet. It was almost as if they entered into a panic, and the ball went every which way. The other area was that the Commanders blocked the Giants on every play that they tried.
The upside to the way that New York played was how well their defensive line played. Outside linebacker Brian Burns made several sacks against the Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels. The defensive line also made as many stops as they could, though there were points where the defensive line left spots open. It allowed the commanders to have big plays, which wasn’t a good look for the Giants at all. The Giants were only able to score two field goals during the entire game, and that was in the first and third quarters of the game.
The Giants will return next Sunday, September 14th, to take on the Dallas Cowboys at 1:00 p.m. ET. Hopefully, the Giants will be able to pull through and have a much better game than they did in Week One. It was a struggle, but if the Giants are able to work on their red zone plays, they should be more than ready to take on Dallas in Week Two. The season is heating up, and the Giants need to fix it before it's too late. Especially when it comes to their offensive line and protecting their quarterbacks.
