Big Blue Looks to Build Momentum Against the Rams in 2026 Week Two
The New York Football Giants are heading into Week Two of the 2026 season with a win that will be remembered for years to come. They defeated the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 in Week One. Big Blue is on the road this week, heading to Los Angeles to take on the Rams on Monday Night Football. The stakes are high for New York, since they have proven they can work together and win. Los Angeles should be ready for what this team brings.
This team has proven that they can work under the John Harbaugh formula. The Giants are strong and skilled in every aspect because of the dedication put into the offseason rebuild. This head coach wanted players who actually want to be here and can put up a fight. Big Blue has spent time cutting players who have proven they can't contribute to plays and make small mistakes that shouldn’t be there. A crucial Week Two continues to show what a controlled team looks like.
That said, team leader and Giants franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart looks to build on his season opener. This young quarterback completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns against Dallas. Dart also added 54 yards on the ground. This did not come as a surprise with the triple threat that this playmaker is. He has given New York an even bigger offensive dimension, simply by being able to pull any of this off.
More importantly than what they brought in, the Giants stayed consistent in their Week One play. Big Blue scored on nearly every drive during their first game of the season. Three out of their four touchdowns also lasted more than six minutes, and only two lasted longer than eight. New York could control the ball and keep up the pace so that they hadn’t fallen behind in games as they had in the past few seasons. If the team can keep this up and repeat the formula, it will be crucial when they take on Los Angeles this coming week.
The Giants also had Cam Skattebo officially back on the field. Skattebo rushed 18 times for 81 yards and a touchdown while playing against Dallas. Head coach Harbaugh is taking it easy on both Skattebo and Nabers, who were playing in the first game of the season. He hopes not to burn them out too quickly and will have them play only every other play, if not every other scoring drive.
The Rams, however, have spent time working on their defensive line. They have recently added Aaron Donald back onto their roster. It shouldn’t scare Big Blue. The team needs to keep Dart standing up right. Another encouraging development for Week Two is the offensive line and how they have been playing. They have rookie Francis Maugoia, who has not surrendered any pressure on 36 pass-blocking snaps in his NFL debut.
On the other side of the ball, the Giants have amazing pass rushers who likely have an advantage over Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford finished his home opener with 155 passing yards and an interception. The team may have led 10-7 before halftime, but San Francisco took over in the second half. This creates an intriguing opportunity for the Giants' defensive front. Brian Burns and Abdul Carter are the leading names who can make the Rams quarterback uncomfortable if they break through and get to him.
New York needs to avoid giving Los Angeles extra opportunities and follow exactly what they did in Week One. They need to step it up this time around. Monday night, they need to execute what they did the previous week. Dart is facing another veteran defensive unit this coming week and will be challenged by one of the league's accomplished quarterbacks. If the Giants can do it again, they may find themselves sitting at 2-0 in the second week. A record that hadn’t occurred over the last ten seasons. The Giants and Rams will kick off Monday Night Football on September 21st at 8:15 p.m. EST.
