Bold Predictions for the Cowboys Heading Into 2026
The 2026 NFL season is poised to be one of the most memorable in recent history. With Myles Garrett being part of a blockbuster trade to the Rams or head coaching drama with Mike Vrabel and the Patriots, the 2026 offseason has been a thriller thus far. The offseason also provides the perfect time for predictions and optimism for fan bases entering the new season. As the 2026 NFL season is only months away for the Dallas Cowboys, what are some bold predictions for them?
Dak for MVP
Dak Prescott, every year he has been healthy and played over 15 games, has been a consistent contender for MVP. In 2023, he placed second only to Lamar Jackson, and there was a real argument that he could have won the award. In 2025, the four-time Pro Bowl QB would have arguably his best season to date, but a league-worst defense would hold back his potential contention for the award. Now in 2026, if Prescott can replicate his performance from the previous year and Dallas can have a good record, the MVP conversation is not far-fetched, especially with what should be a significantly improved defense.
Javonte Williams Rushing Touchdown Leader
Leading the league in rushing touchdowns is a difficult feat, but having the league's best offense certainly helps. In 2025, Javonte Williams was eighth in rushing touchdowns at 11; Jonathan Taylor led the league with 18. A major area of struggle for Dallas in 2025 was red-zone efficiency. Whether it was due to being overly creative with the football or overcomplicating their play calls in the red zone, it was disappointing for an elite offense like the Cowboys. If Dallas can simplify their red zone offense and trust Williams in the areas where he excelled in 2025, it is not out of the question that the 26-year-old could lead the league in rushing touchdowns.
Caleb Downs Creating Five Turnovers
Caleb Downs, in his time at Ohio State, was not known for creating turnovers, but under Christian Parker's new system, he will be playing slot corner. At the slot, the 21-year-old will be able to take advantage of being closer to the football and using his God-given abilities to take the ball away. Throughout his college career, Downs created six turnovers, but in the NFL, as the new leader of this Dallas defense, his chances of creating turnovers will be significantly higher. In Parker's new defense, taking the ball away is a key emphasis, and with the Cowboys struggling to do so in 2025, they hope 2026 can be a turnaround. Creating over five turnovers in a rookie season is tough for any player entering the NFL; however, Downs is one of those rarities who is capable.
