Braves Power Past Marlins to Cap Series

MLB

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins 7-1 to end their five-game series. Atlanta's offense was sparked early on when Matt Olson hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the score. Throughout the game, the Braves maintained their momentum. Sean Murphy scored on a wild pitch to increase the advantage after Jurickson Profar added an RBI double in the fifth inning. Michael Harris II belted a solo shot, and Marcell Ozuna launched a three-run homer in the seventh inning, both of which drove up crucial insurance runs as Atlanta pulled away.

In the first inning, there were no runs scored by either team. The only person to get on base was Xavier Edwards. In the top of the second, Derek Hill doubled to center, then got the first run off Liam Hicks' single. The Braves weren’t able to answer back in the bottom of the second. With the top of the third, the Marlins didn’t have much luck, leaving Kyle Stowers on first after being walked. Nacho Alvarez Jr. was also left on first for the Braves, closing out the third inning, still 1-0 Marlins.

Dane Myers doubled to right field in the top of the fourth, while Hill was walked on a full count. Javier Sanoja grounded out to shortstop, leaving Myers and Hill on the bases. In the bottom of the fourth, Olson got the game going for the Braves, hitting a home run on a 2-0 count. Alvarez Jr. was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth. He then scored off Profar’s double to right field, making them up 2-1. It was then that bases were loaded when Tyler Phillips threw a wild pitch, letting Profar score, making it 3-1. In the sixth inning, both teams had players on base, but no one was able to score.

Dylan Lee was put in to pitch for the Braves in the seventh inning. Lee stood his ground and let no runs in this inning. Both Profar and Olson were able to get a nice single each to start the inning off well for the Braves. Ozuna then continued the greatness, hitting a three-run homer on a 2-2 count, giving the Braves a 6-1 lead. Harris II also got a homerun for himself on a 0-2 count, giving the Braves another run on the board. Both the eighth and ninth innings had some good action for both teams, but again, not enough to get runs across. The Marlins were unable to make a comeback, giving the Braves their awarded 7-1 win, bringing their record to 51-67.
