Buffalo Bills Training Camp Star Gets Injured
Today marked day four of Buffalo Bills training camp, and the team is in full swing, gearing up for another impressive season. While players are continuing to show growth, one name that stood out was wide receiver Tyrell Shavers. Shavers hasn’t had the best track record with the Bills, but his progress over the past two seasons has been awe-inspiring. Thanks to his dedication to the sport, coaches and fans alike are starting to take notice of his potential. Unfortunately, this breakout star suffered an injury at practice today and was taken off the field on a cart. While many details remain unknown, there's hope that the injury was minor and Shavers will return to practice soon, hopefully taking a roster spot.
Shaver's journey to the NFL hasn’t been easy. The wide receiver went undrafted in 2023, coming out of college. In 2024, the Bills released Shavers following training camp, later signing him to the practice squad. However, his time on the team did not translate into top-notch performance. Shavers only saw one reception and 69 yards throughout three games. Yet, because of Shavers' perseverance, he was able to stay in the mix. He even received praise from star quarterback Josh Allen, who said, “I am rooting for the 25-year-old.”
This year, Shavers made his return to training camp, vying for a roster spot and to prove that he is meant to be in the NFL. Sure enough, the wide receiver impressed. Shavers has been getting a ton of time with the first team offense, and it was made especially apparent today, as he made several passing game plays. However, in the last play of practice, disaster struck for this young star. Shavers went down with an injury after catching a touchdown pass at the end of practice. The wide receiver made the catch on rookie defensive back Maxwell Hairston. Per The Athletic, Shavers was unable to put pressure on his right leg. This is just one of the few injuries made to the offensive front so far, along with wideout Curtis Samuel. Once healthy, many eyes will be on Shavers looking to see if this hopeful receiver can finally make the Bills' 53-man roster.
