Cadillac Making Eyes at Former Red Bull Driver
Cadillac, the rookie team joining the F1 circuit in 2026, has been courting former Red Bull Driver, Sergio Perez. The two are currently in talks about a potential three-year contract. Perez would be a strong driver to begin the American team’s debut, with over 280 starts to his name and six Grand Prix wins. However, as a new operation, Cadillac is still unstable, and Perez is under no shortage of choice for the 2026 season.
Perez has been out of the spotlight since 2024, after an infamous split with Red Bull at the tail end of the year. One of the many co-drivers overshadowed by the imposing Max Verstappen silhouette. Still, his skill is apparent with nearly three hundred races to his name. It could be a strong choice for the novice team to start out its circuit with tires smoking.
That is, if the driver is willing. After such a rough transition out of Red Bull, Perez might be satisfied to keep off the track entirely. If you look closely, I think you can still see skid marks on Perez’s back. "If I find a project that motivates me fully to come back,” said Perez, “where the team believes in me and where they appreciate my career, my experience, and everything I can bring to a team, it would be very attractive to consider it."
Cadillac team boss, Graeme Lowdon, has spoken about the concerns facing the American outfit. Certainly, the new team is not as organized or structured as established ones, still sorting out timelines and lineups and the myriad of structures that are involved in creating a team from scratch. The driver is the most front-facing decision of them all. "I think,” mentioned Lowden, “the fans would love to see an American driver in an American team. There's nothing stopping that from happening, but we've just got to go ahead and select on merit and build a team, because there are a few very experienced drivers available."
There are still three-quarters of the 2025 season left to race. Any final decisions about the next season are still a long way off. Although, reportedly, Cadillac has teased unveiling its livery on May 3rd during the Miami Grand Prix. We also know that Perez will be in Miami for the race weekend. Whether as a fan or candidate is unclear. As you check Perez for skid marks, keep an eye out for the Cadillac emblem on his chest.
