Can Jared Goff Win a Super Bowl with Detroit?
No matter where you go inside the state of Michigan, there’s one man whose name can be chanted anywhere you are. Detroit Lions quarterback, Jared Goff, has become something of a hero to the Motor City. In his four seasons with Detroit, Goff has thrown for over 4,000 yards three times and averaged 30 touchdowns a season. In the past two seasons, Goff has helped bring his team to the playoffs, getting as far as the conference championship in 2023, where they fell against the San Francisco 49ers. After a devastating ending to its playoff hopes this year with a divisional round exit against the Washington Commanders, the question of Goff being able to hoist a Lombardi trophy in Detroit has crossed fans' minds.
Detroit had a devastating season in terms of injuries this past year, which could have contributed to its early exit in the playoffs. They lost one of its key players, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who was a massive blow to the team's Super Bowl hopes. While there were multiple factors in the playoff loss, it’s no secret it wasn’t Goff’s best performance. He would throw for 313 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. This would also result in a 59.7 quarterback rating. Some fans after the game pointed fingers at the star quarterback, who couldn’t get his team out of its first game in the 2025 playoffs.
While Goff may have struggled, he has shown in the past that he’s more than capable of making a deep run in the playoffs. In his time with the Los Angeles Rams, he would make the playoffs four times, having a Super Bowl appearance and an NFC Championship appearance. This also doesn’t even include his NFC Championship appearance with the Lions. While Goff may have struggled in a playoff game that was coming off the Lion's best season as a franchise, he has more than proven he can still take Detroit to its first Super Bowl in franchise history. The Detroit Lions will hope that the 2025-2026 season can be the one where the team captures its first Super Bowl title.
