Can Manchester City Close the Gap Before the End of the 2026 Season?
Who will walk away with the 25-26 Premier League title? A couple of weeks ago, the answer seemed to be undoubtedly Arsenal, but as the weeks have gone by, Manchester City seems to be catching up to the Gunners. Both teams have demonstrated remarkable performances this season. Manchester United has not lost any of its last five games, and Arsenal has been on a winning streak for the last three games. With only two Matchweeks left, a lot can still happen. Will City be able to catch up, or will this be Arsenal’s first Premier League title in over 20 years?
Arsenal has been leading the Premier League table unwaveringly since Matchweek seven, unwilling to yield its table-topping position to anyone. The Gunners also recently qualified for the UEFA Champions League Final against Paris Saint-Germain, giving fans plenty to expect from one of the biggest European matches of the 2026 season. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is on the verge of winning its first major title in six years. However, the last thing the Gunners should do is celebrate early; six weeks ago, Manchester United was nine points away, now they stand five points apart with just two games left. Everything is very fragile for Arsenal right now; one wrong move could make all their title dreams fade away in a second.
Manchester City has been keeping an eye on Arsenal's back since Matchweek eight. The Citizens have been patient, only truly showing themselves as a threat three weeks ago. Pep Guardiola’s crew has won four out of the last five matches and tied only one. Their performance these past few weeks in the Premier League has been nothing short of impressive; however, their appearance in the UEFA Champions League left a lot to be desired. Man City lost 5-1 aggregate against Real Madrid in the round of 16, disappointing many fans. They have been atoning for this mediocre performance, though, and just yesterday scored 3-0 against Brentford. Let us not forget that Manchester City has dominated the Premier League since 2020, winning all the titles but last year’s, which had Liverpool as a victor and Arsenal as a runner-up.
Will Manchester City be able to restore its not-so-former glory this season? Arsenal has two games remaining against Burnley and Crystal Palace. Manchester City, on the other hand, has three games left and will be playing against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa, respectively. Five points are separating both teams right now, which is enough to make Arsenal feel tense. Neither team can afford to let its guard down as the season comes to a close. Fans can be sure the best is yet to come.
