While Dallas will lean on its great defensive line, led by Quinnen Williams, whom the Cowboys traded for last year, having more players in the middle of the field can help fill the voids left last year. Communication was an issue at several points in 2025, and Parker is making sure Dallas does not have those mental lapses. With a new scheme, a new coach, and a new, more open approach to communication, the only thing left for this kid's backing group is to play well, and with the players Dallas has, they believe they will.
The main trust for the 2026 linebacking core is on the shoulders of former Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. While plagued by injuries throughout his three-year career, he has been easily one of the most exciting players in the league when he is on the field. The 25-year-old will likely be the Dallas green dot leader on defense, a role he is more than happy to take. The Cowboys have also made sure to pair him with other draft picks, like Jaishawn Barham and second-year man Shemar James, who was solid in his rookie season. The core of linebackers may be young, but they have a lot of promise. Since the aforementioned defensive line is the backbone of the Dallas defense, the linebacking corps could significantly impact the success of this season.
