Can the South Florida Bulls Add the Miami Hurricanes to Their Upset List?

Tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. EST, the South Florida Bulls will take on the fifth-ranked Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium in what's shaping up to be one of the most anticipated matchups of Week Three. The Hurricanes are a strong team, but the Bulls just defeated a big team last week and are now on everyone's radar. So this game could be a win for the Bulls and a setback for the Hurricanes. With momentum on their side and confidence surging, the Bulls are poised to test Miami's defense and prove their upset wasn't a fluke.

After the Bulls won their last game against the Florida Gators, they shocked everyone. They will be entering this game with high expectations. Per game, they averaged 227.5 passing yards,180.2 rushing yards, and 407.7 offensive yards, showcasing a balanced attack that keeps defense guessing. Despite their offensive power, the Bulls struggle defensively, allowing nearly 437 yards per game, giving them a disadvantage.

The Bulls have many gifted players, each bringing talent to the field, whether it's explosive speed, sharp decision-making, or relentless grit. Remarkable players like Byrum Brown and Alvon Isaac consistently turn heads with clutch performances, helping USF stay competitive in high-pressure matchups. Byrum Brown averages 54.5 rushing yards, 15.5 carries, and 236.5 passing yards per game. Alvon Isaac averages 8.3 yards per carry and 12.5 rushing yards per game.  Brown's dual-threat dominance and  Isaacs' explosive efficiency give USF a dynamic edge, turning raw talent into game-changing impact.

The Hurricanes are entering this game strong as well. The Hurricanes just won their last high-profile game 27-24. The Hurricanes' offense is strong with Anez Cooper leading the pack, and Carson Beck pulling the stops as the new QB. Anez Cooper is a skilled offensive lineman who anchors the team. In 2023 and 2024, he earned honorable mention honors, a testament to his performance in top-tier competition. Carson Beck has been impactful in Miami's offense. He has thrown four touchdowns and zero interceptions in just two games, proving he's protecting the ball while still pushing it downfield. Unfortunately, what Miami makes up for offensively, they lack defensively.

The Hurricanes' defense is poor and lacks consistency. They allow 25.3 points,214.4 passing yards, and 112.8 rushing yards per game, exposing vulnerabilities in both coverage and run support. The team also struggled to generate pressure consistently, averaging 1.1 sacks per game, which ranked near the bottom nationally. Without a disruptive front, opposing QBs had time to exploit soft zones and mismatches, leading to breakdowns in key moments. If the Hurricanes establish a defensive identity, this game could be a win for them, and the rest of the season could go well.

The last time the Hurricanes played the Bulls, the Hurricanes wiped them out 50-15. This time, because of the Bulls' previous wins, they actually have a chance. If their defense stays focused throughout the whole game, and they don’t allow any yards, and their skilled offensive players continue to perform. They will beat the Hurricanes before they can even catch their breath. The Hurricanes could win as well if their defense makes every effort to lock in. So this game could go either way. Although if the Hurricanes think this is going to be an easy win and let their defense coast, the Bulls could catch them off guard. In a tight contest, I’m taking USF over Miami. So, don't be surprised if they pull off the upset.
