Can ‘The Standout’ Stop Jaida Parker in Her First 2026 NXT Women’s Championship Defense?

Heading into NXT Heatwave, one of the biggest questions was who would hold the NXT Women’s Championship after NXT’s biggest event of the summer? The champion, Kendal Grey, has turned heads since her NXT debut when she held the WWE Evolve Women’s Championship. Since then, Grey won the 2025 Women’s Iron Survivor Match, appeared on multiple premium live events, defeated Lola Vice for the NXT Women’s Championship at The Great American Bash, and has formed a sisterhood-type friendship with Wren Sinclair, forming the WrenQCC. However, her injuries from fighting Vice in an Underground Match proved to be too much, as ‘The Standout’ Kelani Jordan won the title from Grey at Heatwave. During the September 1st episode of NXT, Jordan was interrupted by Jaida Parker, who, after defeating Nattie in a Submission Match at Heatwave, believes she has earned herself an NXT Women’s Championship bout. Now, on the September 8th edition of NXT, we’ll see if ‘The Standout’ can stop ‘Miss Parker’ in her first championship defense.

‘The Standout’ has tried to get herself in championship contention and couldn’t get the job done, yet when she made herself the top contender for the NXT Women’s Championship, Jordan got the job done in her first attempt vying for the title. Just as she did with the NXT Women’s North American Championship and the TNA Knockouts Championship. Defeating Grey has to give the new champ even more confidence that she’s ‘The Standout’ and she’s a future pillar to any Women’s Division on the main roster. Jordan has lost to Parker before, but after defeating one of the most talked-about superstars in spectacular fashion, the NXT Women’s Champion should have a ton of momentum on her side.

However, Parker also will be heading into this championship match with momentum at her side. ‘Miss Parker’ outlasted Nattie by putting ‘The Lowkey Legend’ tap out in her own Sharpshooter submission hold. This came after months of Nattie berating Parker and, as ‘Miss Parker’ put it, trying to put a woman on the rise back down. Now that Parker feels fully confident in herself and her abilities, she may make ‘The Standout’ reign as NXT Women’s Champion extremely short.

One big question arises as this match comes closer, and that’s whether Thea Hail will try to assist her friend in Parker during this match. Does something happen between Hail and ‘Miss Parker’ where their friendship gets put in jeopardy? If Parker has a former NXT Women’s North American Champion on her side, that may put Jordan in danger with the advantage in the numbers game. Yet that all depends on whether ‘Miss Parker’ allows Hail to accompany her ringside.

While I thought Grey would retain the title after Heatwave, that doesn’t mean I didn’t think Jordan isn’t worthy of becoming champion. I just did not assume Grey’s reign would be so short. Nonetheless, ‘The Standout’s’ reign shouldn’t last less than two weeks. Parker should also be champion, but that’s down the line when Jordan has had a solid run as champ and is a heel. I would predict Jordan to win either clean or because of some accidental mistake Hail causes to cost Parker her title opportunity.
