Can the 'Young OG’ Beat the NXT Champion?

WWE

On tonight’s episode of NXT, Je’Von Evans defeated Trick Williams in an NXT Championship Number One Contender’s Match. Evans will now face the NXT Champion Oba Femi at this Sunday’s Premium Live Event, WWE Heatwave. Looking at this matchup, it is a true David vs. Goliath matchup. Femi is a six-foot-six giant that weighs 310 pounds, while Evans stands at six-foot-one and weighs 180 pounds. What the Young OG lacks in size, he makes up for in speed and athleticism, but this will be his greatest challenge as he tries to reach the top of the ladder by conquering a man who has been nearly unbeatable since winning the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament in 2024. The Ruler is having one of the most dominant reigns as NXT Champion. He has beaten the likes of NXT favorites such as Trick Williams and TNA superstars such as Moose. He has beaten everyone that has stepped up to him, but can Evans defy the odds and pull off the big upset at Heatwave?

Ever since pinning Evans in the main event of Stand and Deliver, a match that also included Williams. Femi has been on a tear by taking down the likes of Myles Borne, Yoshki Inamura, and Josh Briggs on his way to holding the championship for over 200 days now. However, in the months since Stand and Deliver, the Young OG has been building himself up to get another crack at the championship. The Greensboro, NC native has been taking on all comers, including DarkState, Jasper Troy, and Williams, who is currently the TNA Champion. His underdog spirit and his arsenal of aerial maneuvers continue to amaze the NXT Universe, and he has dropped Femi before, but this time, he will have to do it when it counts the most.

If Evans wins at Heatwave, he will become the youngest NXT Champion in history. Yet, if Femi wins, he will continue his dominant reign as champion. It is hard to envision who will defeat the former Alabama Crimson Tide shot putter because his reign has been so dominant. Many men have tried, and they have all fallen to the Ruler. The odds are not in Evans’s favor, but if anyone can pull off the upset when no one expects it, it would be the Young OG. If he wins the title, the WWE is putting a lot of faith and momentum behind the 21-year-old. Which begs the question of whether Evans is ready for the big moment? The question will be answered in what will most likely be the main event when NXT touches down in Lowell, MA. The WWE shocked fans once when Jacy Jayne beat Stephanie Vaquer for the NXT Women’s Championship, but could they possibly shock fans again by giving Evans the upset win over Femi? The Summer season may be coming to an end, but NXT continues to heat up.
