Can These Bills Step Up from Their Performance Against the Giants and Dominate the Bears?

NFL

The Buffalo Bills will take on the Chicago Bears in their second preseason game on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST. After facing a tough loss to the New York Giants last week, many flaws were revealed in the team's play that they are now determined to address. The team mainly struggled with pass defense and a lack of pass rush, scoring zero sacks in the entire game. As the team continues practicing, it will be crucial for them to correct these issues in their upcoming match to dominate the Bears.

Rookie defensive end Landon Jackson was among the players who underperformed. Jackson was the Bills' first-round pick and arguably Arkansas' best player last year. Though the rookie suffered some injuries during his final collegiate season, he told the Pay the Bills Podcast that his body is feeling “great” and he is ready to “get going.” Jackson looked strong at camp, and many fans were eager to watch their new rusher make his first NFL debut. However, the rookie recorded no stats from this preseason game. Instead, he racked up a penalty. However, many are hopeful that with his size and athleticism, combined with more coaching, Jackson will be able to make a major difference on the field, hopefully starting this Sunday.

Offensively, backup tight ends Zach Davidson and Jackson Hawes need to step up entering this second preseason game. Davidson is entering his third year with the Buffalo Bills but has only appeared in two games. Unfortunately, the tight end has yet to prove himself. Davidson only caught one out of four passes and made two catchable drops that caught the fans' attention. Hawes is also competing for a backup TE spot, and didn’t post any impressive stats either. Both will have to bring their A-game to Chicago to earn their spot on the 53-man roster.

On the flip side, running back James Cook has just extended his contract with the team and is rumored to see action in the upcoming game. Cook, who delayed signing his deal, has plenty to prove as he returns to the field. According to the official roster release earlier today, all these players will get another chance to solidify their spots. Every snap matters in a game like this.
