Can Two New Additions Turn the Cowboys Season Around?
The Dallas Cowboys go into their bye week with a 3-5-1 record. On Tuesday, Jerry Jones sent shockwaves through the league by trading a 2026 seventh-round pick for the Cincinnati Bengals LB Logan Wilson and a 2026 second-round pick, 2027 first-round pick, and DT Mazi Smith for the New York Jets DT Quinnen Williams. Despite the Cowboys' losing record, when you trade for guys, it usually sparks your team’s locker room. Jerry Jones hopes this will happen as he traded away major capital for these guys.
Logan Wilson
Logan Wilson adds veteran presence to the Cowboys' linebacker room, which has struggled all season. Wilson has been a part of a Super Bowl run, making it to Super Bowl LVI with the Bengals. In Wilson’s career, he’s had multiple 100-tackling seasons and recorded 11 interceptions, with his season high being four. His ability to make plays, use his instincts, and create game-changing plays when it matters the most will make him an invaluable asset as the Cowboys are trying to push for the playoffs. His high football IQ and leadership will make him an invaluable player when trying to keep opposing offenses off balance and teaching the young guys the ropes.
Quinnen Williams
Dallas acquired Quinnen Williams in a blockbuster trade. Jerry Jones called the Jets GM to try to acquire him when they were trading Micah Parsons. Williams brings star power back to their defensive line. In his career, this three-time Pro Bowler has established himself as one of the best interior linemen in the league. He’s recorded at six-foot-three, 302 pounds and is a matchup nightmare for most offensive lines, causing offensive coordinators to double-team him. Williams doesn’t just disrupt the run; he also is a game breaker to most QBs. In his career, he’s recorded 40 sacks. His ability to bring attention to himself so that the other players on the Cowboys' defensive line can thrive. Quinnen is one of the best at collapsing the pocket, forcing QBs into bad situations, causing them to throw interceptions and make terrible decisions down field.
Both Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson bring energy back to the Cowboys locker room. They rank as the second worst defense in the NFL, so adding two guys can be a step in the right direction. After their Bye Week, they are on track to get CB Shavon Revel Jr and LB DeMarvion Overshown back into the starting rotation. Revel Jr. has been recovering from a torn ACL suffered back in September 2024, and Overshown tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in December 2024. If you put those four guys in the lineup mixed with their offense ranking in the top five, then maybe they can get into the playoffs and become Super Bowl contenders.
