Chargers vs. Colts: Seven Players Who Could Make a Great Impact in Week Seven

NFL

The Los Angeles Chargers will play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. This matchup gives an advantage to the Chargers because they are playing on their home turf. All of the Chargers players will wear an alternative gold "Charger Power" uniform for the first time. These uniforms were first revealed to the public back in July. The game holds immense importance for both teams as they vie for the top spot in the AFC. They face the Indianapolis Colts, who lead the AFC with a 5-1 record, while the Los Angeles Chargers are currently in third place with a 4-2 record. With the Chargers aiming to make it to the playoffs, they must rely on their squad to secure a victory this week.

Ladd McConkey

Wide receiver Ladd McConkey left Hard Rock Stadium speechless when he scored a touchdown with just seconds left on the clock. McConkey's performance last week has been labeled as his best game of the year. He brought the team to a 27-26 lead before a winning field goal. Additionally, he caught nine passes for 100 yards and a touchdown that led to a Chargers win. He holds an NFL record for most receiving yards by a rookie in a single postseason game from last year’s season. This season, he's made two touchdowns and received 19.5% of his team's 220 passing attempts.

Justin Herbert

Justin Herbert has been making history as a quarterback on the Chargers since he was drafted in 2020. Herbert is ranked among the top quarterbacks in the NFL. His ability to read defenses and extend plays puts him ahead of the Colts’ starting quarterback, Daniel Jones. While Jones holds a 1-1 edge in career playoff wins, Herbert is 0-2; yet, Herbert's overall talent and command are undeniable. Thus, Herbert’s presence may potentially give Los Angeles a slight advantage in this game.

Kimani Vidal

As a running back, Kimani Vidal has become one of the Chargers' most influential players this season. His performance against the Dolphins was significant for his first career start. Vidal, who joined the Los Angeles Chargers as a sixth-round pick, has been picking up the pace with 138 yards from scrimmage in that game. Vidal capitalized on the opportunity for touches, out-producing his teammate Hassan Haskins. While Haskins provides the team with reliable pass protection, Vidal proved to be the more strategic running back.

Vidal will have to think strategically while playing against Indianapolis' defense. Their defense ranks 13th in rushing yards allowed. Jonathan Taylor on the Colts has been a powerful force in the 2025 campaign, rushing for over 600 yards in six games at an average of 4.8 yards per carry. Taylor excels in his ability to break tackles and routinely earn tough yards. This means that Vidal must be prepared to rush to the finish line to convert opportunities into points for Los Angeles.

Cameron Dicker

Kicker Cameron Dicker, better known as “Dicker the Kicker,” has been a powerful force on the Chargers' special teams. For his efforts in Week Six, he won player of the week following yet another clutch effort. Dicker has succeeded in the majority of his field goal attempts so far. Earlier this season, he gained the title of the NFL's most accurate kicker after completing his 100th field goal. He has been a game-changer in close games. As a result of the anticipated rivalry in the Chargers vs. Colts game, Dicker will be essential to have on the gridiron for points on the scoreboard, especially since this game is probably going to be decided by close margins.

Keenan Allen

Keenan Allen plays a critical role on the Chargers’ offensive line. Throughout his football career, he has caught 401 career passes from Herbert alone. This season, he’s been a steady target for the starting quarterback in making big plays. Allen recently received recognition for his leadership and contributions on and off the field. Earlier this month, the wide receiver, currently in his 13th NFL season, became the 16th player in NFL history to record 1,000 career catches. This makes him an all-time reception leader. Others who have also received this title include legends like Jerry Rice, Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, and Travis Kelce. What distinguishes Allen from the rest of the list is that he achieved this milestone in just 159 games. This makes him the quickest player in the NFL to gain this title. His ability to draw coverage and create opportunities in uneasy situations is critical for Los Angeles to maintain offensive flow against the Colts’ secondary.

Derwin James

Derwin James remains a cornerstone as a defensive captain for the Chargers’ secondary this 2025 season. Overall, he has been a key player in disrupting opposing quarterback strategies. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has publicly praised James’s football intelligence and his ability to make game-changing plays. This season, James’s snap counts and pass breakups have remained spectacular, reflecting his central role in coverage schemes. His experience as a team leader and his powerful role will be crucial in countering the Indianapolis Colts’ passing game, which could be a deciding factor in this close AFC game.

Tuli Tuipulotu

Defensive end Tuli Tuipulotu's recent performances, particularly his ability to regularly put pressure on quarterbacks, have established his status as a breakout star. Tuipulotu has recorded numerous sacks and tackles over the last three weeks, and the Chargers' coaching staff has praised him for his unwavering work ethic. The Chargers' defense, which aims to control the line of scrimmage and cause turnovers, will depend heavily on his ability to disrupt the Colts' attack. Given his recent performance, Tuipulotu may have a significant impact on how the game turns out, making this matchup a must-watch game.
