Colts Focus on Staying on Top of the AFC Against the Titans
Who would have thought heading into Week Eight of the 2025 NFL season that the Indianapolis Colts would be not only the best team in the AFC but within the NFL? At 6-1, the Colts have established an identity with quarterback Daniel Jones at the helm. The Colts lead the season thus far with 232 points against their combined seven opponents. They’ll be going up against the 1-6 Tennessee Titans, who’ve scored the least amount of points seven weeks into the year at 96. The Colts offense has averaged 32 points a game while the Titans defense has given up at least 27 points on average this season.
While the Titans took their one win of the year on the road against the Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis is currently undefeated at home at 4-0. The Colts are on a whole octane level when they play at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indianapolis has scored 30 points three out of their four times playing at home; that one other time, the Colts had 29. For a Titans team that’s scored less than 20 points five times this season, it’s going to be very difficult for Cameron Ward and the Titans to overcome the odds in this matchup.
In just seven games this season, Daniel Jones has revitalized his whole career. Thus far, he has a career-high in completion percentage. Currently at 1,790 passing yards, he’s 280 yards away from exceeding his passing yards in 10 games with the Giants last season. The 28-year-old quarterback has had great receivers such as Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Tyler Warren to hurl the ball to. Another key piece to Indianapolis’ success has been running back Jonathan Taylor, who’s recorded 10 touchdowns and three 100-plus yard games in the first seven games of the year. If these guys continue to execute under head coach Shane Steichen, the Colts may take the first seed in the AFC and never look back.
For Ward, he did not have the worst outing in the Titans’ 31-13 loss to the New England Patriots, finishing with 255 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception, yet he did fumble the ball to allow a Patriots touchdown. It was truly Tennessee’s run game that suffered the most problems in that Week Seven loss, with a total of 39 rushing yards for the whole game. Ward must continue to stay solid and grow his game week in and week out, yet all cylinders must be clicking on this team in order to execute an upset over the best team in the AFC. This battle between the best and one of the worst teams in the NFL will take place on Sunday at 4:25 EST.
