Comeback to Collapse: Big Blue Falls to Dallas
The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys played a big game against one another today. Both sides had fantastic plays that kept the game very close in scoring. Both teams scored a total of 77 points altogether, the Giants scoring 37 and the Cowboys winning with a final score of 40, taking the win for Week Two. The Giants continue their streak of losing for the 16th time out of 17 to Dallas in this matchup. The Giants exhibited several strengths during this game, but they also had specific weaknesses. Here are a few things that worked for New York and what didn’t in Week Two.
Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson had a big game right alongside the Giants. He passed the ball for almost 454 yards and continued to do so even when the game went into overtime. Wilson and wide receiver Malik Nabers kept a clear connection during the game. Nabers was able to score two touchdowns during this game. Wilson was also easily able to make connections with the team's other wide receiver, Wan’Dale Robinson. He was easily able to be the open guy that Wilson was looking for if Nabers was not open. The Giants really kept the fight going offensively during this game.
The defense also did well during this game. The Giants' Andru Phillips was able to catch an interception during the game. The Giants started off holding the Cowboys back, but as the game went on, they struggled to stop certain players, such as running back Javonte Williams. They did the best they could, but the defense gave up at least several scoring touchdowns. The Giants were able to make the stops primarily when the Cowboys used their run game, and it never got them very far. Edge rusher Brian Burns also recorded several sacks on the Cowboys' quarterback, Dak Prescott, on multiple occasions.
The Giants did the best they could, and the fourth quarter became explosive as both teams tried to win before entering the game's overtime. The Giants accepted 14 penalties, which set them back 160 yards, causing them to suffer another loss. Having all of these calls was pretty costly for the Giants, and there were also all of the penalties called on them during this game. Having this many is already considered a huge setback for the team. However, the Giants kept their fight up against this Dallas team. The Giants will return next Sunday, September 21st, when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs at 8 P.M. at home in the Meadowlands.
