Dak in the Dark: Why Prescott Is a Forgotten Fantasy Steal

NFL

This past weekend was the first weekend the NFL began its official preseason games. Everyone got the chance to play and get their hands on the football. Some veterans even got to play despite it being only the beginning of the season. That said, it’s time to focus on fantasy football managers and who they will draft to their roster this coming season. Managers have a lot to choose from, but they want to see who the top player is, and some ignore the fantasy sleepers. This is not the greatest choice, but one quarterback that managers should be paying attention to is the Cowboys’ veteran quarterback, Dak Prescott

Last season was a complete bust for anyone who had drafted Prescott altogether. His season ended with a hamstring injury that cut his 2024 season short. Since then, he has had a rough time being picked up by any fantasy manager that comes across him. He has the tools, weapons, and track record to outperform the price he is currently showing. Prescott is also sitting at the bottom of the quarterback list, with how far he has fallen behind everyone.

He is slipping down the charts to be drafted for a few reasons. Many managers tend to overvalue what they last saw from last season. A hamstring injury shortened his season. Dallas also struggled without him in late 2024, when they could not find consistency without their star quarterback. The other issue that Prescott is facing is the rise of younger quarterbacks. Names such as Jaxson Dart, Caleb Williams, and Drake Maye are overshadowing him, making him less likely to be picked up.

However, he will be a sleeper in his comeback season this year. Managers may want to pick him up and place him on the bench. Prescott is healthy and motivated for the new year. They are happy with how he has been performing in training camp. He also proves that he sets the bar pretty high regarding the fantasy ceiling. From the 2019 to 2023 season, he averaged 20 fantasy points per game, placing him fourth among quarterbacks during these seasons.

The former Mississippi State QB also has favorable weapons that he can use during this season. He has CeeDee Lamb, who is entering his prime, and a new elite roster. The bonus is that the Cowboys have a favorable and easy schedule this coming season, which will help Prescott raise the stakes for these fantasy points. Dallas is allowing him to start on a decent note this coming season. It is an area that Cowboys fans are looking forward to this season because of how easily Prescott makes contact with his players.

Prescott is a low-risk, high-reward late-round quarterback pick-up. He won’t do much damage if managers pick him up and place him on the bench. Managers look at him as a top-eight fantasy quarterback, potentially if he returns to his pre-injury form. This may be a bargain, especially if he hits early on. There is plenty to think about, but this veteran quarterback is one to put some thought into while managers draft their teams in the coming weeks.
