Dallas Targeting Explosive Nigerian DT Prospect in 2026 Draft

NFL

21-year-old Nigerian Defensive Tackle Uar Bernard is an International Player Pathway Program draft prospect who multiple teams are itching to select, despite his inexperience. The man stands six-foot-four, weighing in at 306 pounds of pure power. With a 10.0 Real Athletic Score and a 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds, he’s got stats that make him a powerhouse. His skills and experience would be a great asset for the Dallas Cowboys, especially on defense.

A Perfect Fit for Dallas’ Defensive Needs

This is the kind of prospect Dallas needs to lock in for their 12th pick. Their focus on stopping the run could use a solid, fast player who could shore up holes in their defense. He is being eyed by more than a few teams, so the question also must turn to affordability. Given the Cowboys’ salary cap funds are nearing their end, and he’s a project that will take time to fully mature, it’s a high-risk, high-reward gamble. The athletic interior defender could bring much-needed defensive line athleticism. I do think he’s worth investing in because they have other high-profile offensive players, such as Javonte Williams and Dak Prescott, which puts a spotlight on their need for defensive upgrades.

High Risk, High Reward: A Long-Term Investment

The Cowboys have the firepower on offense, but the other half of the game will ultimately define their ceiling. Without a bolstered defense, they risk being run through, relatively speaking. This isn’t a hidden flaw; it’s a well-documented issue that opponents are fully prepared to exploit. If the holes in the Cowboys were hard to assess, they might squeak by. However, because rival teams can figure that out, not going far harder on defense than offense will be preyed upon.

Defense Wins Games: A Clear Weakness to Address

To convince the raw but explosive defensive line prospect to join the team, the Cowboys would have to make it an alluring deal. The financial commitment may be steep, but his production and rare athletic traits point to a signing that could deliver long-term value. Aggressive spending is nothing new in Dallas, as evidenced by the organization’s four-year, $240 million commitment to its franchise quarterback: an agreement featuring $60 million per year, an $80 million signing bonus, and $231 million in guaranteed money. Bernard fits with Christian Parker’s stated goal of stopping the run, and if there’s anyone for Jerry Jones to burst the Cowboys’ budget on, it’s him.
