Do the Longhorns Have Taste? Breaking Down Texas Baseball’s Walk-Up Songs
The Texas Longhorns have made themselves quite comfortable sitting at the number one spot in the Division One Baseball national top 25 in recent weeks. They’ve dominated the competition with just five losses this season. There’s no stopping the Longhorns when they are home, away, or on neutral ground. This team has found its momentum and has its eyes set on Omaha. It is clear that they play like winners, but do they sound like winners? Let’s take a look at the Texas Longhorns’ walk-up songs.
Tired and Overused:
The Longhorns have curated quite an impressive playlist for the 2025 season. It was difficult to find songs that could be categorized as unoriginal. Only two picks stuck out as overused. The first was Oliver Service’s pick of Temperature by Sean Paul. It’s a fun song that is easy on a crowd, but it also can be found in every single batting lineup in the NCAA. The second is Kade Bing’s choice of The Way I Are by Timberland, Keri Hilson, and D.O.E. It has all the fundamentals of a great walk-up song, and no doubt gets Bing fired up at the plate but, like Service’s pick, it’s on every other walk-up song list in college ball.
Just Boring:
Again, it was difficult to find a disappointing pick for this category. The Longhorns have done their homework and have made sure to set themselves apart from their opponents. Easton Tumis’ pick of Murder on the Dance Floor by Sophia Ellis-Bextor leaves some room for disappointment. Though the song was popular in the 1980s, it regained popularity on social media following its feature in the movie Saltburn. Songs that blow up on social media are difficult to place because if he had selected this when Saltburn was released and the song was blowing up all over TikTok, it would’ve been a fantastic pick. Now, though, it’s lost its impact.
Live Your Life by T.I. and Rihanna could also be placed in this category. Cole Chamberlain has taste in music that much is clear, but this song doesn’t exactly have the “wow” factor that should come with a walk-up song. It’s not intimidating, it doesn’t pump up a crowd, it’s just a fun song. Not a bad pick by Chamberlain, but it could be better.
Almost Good:
Jayden Duplantier’s choice of Despicable Me by Pharrell Williams is a unique one. It has not exactly been done before, and that has the potential to cause a crowd to react in a good way. However, because of its association with the Despicable Me and Minions movies, it also has the potential to get old fast. Still, though, an impressive choice. Mi Gente by J Balvin and Willy William is also just on the cusp of being good. It’s sort of teetering on the edge of being good and being a song that could easily be found in just about any college lineup. It does its job, though.
Now, This Is a Walk-up Song:
There are so many songs on this list that could fall into this category. The Longhorns know their stuff. Chance Covert II’s choice of Meet Me Halfway by the Black Eyed Peas is near perfect. It’s upbeat, everyone knows it, and it’s hard to get tired of. Similarly, Poker Face by Lady Gaga has the same energy. Ruger Riojas knew what he was doing with that pick. Some other near-perfect songs on the list include Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys, Boot Scootin’ Boogie by Brooks & Dunn, and Safari Song by Greta Van Fleet. The Longhorns have got a taste in every genre.
Perfect. No Notes:
Kimble Schuessler’s pick of 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton is so fun. It gets the crowd into his plate appearance, it’s original, and it gets him excited to bat. This pick has everything a good walk-up song should. Ranking this one as the best of the best was a no-brainer. Reaching into the rap category, the Longhorns have two more perfect picks. Tommy Farmer IV’s pick of Runnin by 21 Savage and Andre Duplantier II’s choice of Change Me by BigXThaPlug reach that level of a perfect walk-up song. Rap songs are hard to do well; they must be tasteful, not overdone, and well-known enough to bring excitement to the crowd. The Longhorns not only look like winners on the field, they sound like winners as well. One of the most quality lists of walk-up songs so far.
