Dolphins Named “Ideal” Landing Spot for Former All-Pro WR

NFL

With the NFL offseason still in the air, journalists are spending their time drawing up potential moves that could still happen across the league. Aaron Schatz, a writer for the NFL on ESPN, published an article today highlighting one move each team could still make before the season kicks off. In the Dolphins section, Miami was named an “ideal” landing spot for longtime Charger and former Bear Keenan Allen. The Dolphins could always look to add more offensive weapons, but would Allen’s presence actually help the Fins in any way?

One of the first things not addressed by Schatz was the Dolphins’ signing of former Titans wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. Westbrook-Ikhine broke onto the scene in 2024, reeling in nine touchdowns on 32 receptions for 497 yards. Miami inked him to a two-year, $5.99 million deal, ensuring the team would have a true wide receiver three option for the next two seasons. The 28-year-old brings some of the best perimeter blocking in the league and is a nightmare to cover for opposing cornerbacks. His six-foot-two, 211-pound frame combines size and speed, making him a physical red zone threat and a capable deep-ball target. So if this signing wasn’t mentioned, how exactly would Allen upgrade the offense?

At 33, Allen still boasts an impressive résumé: six Pro Bowl selections and two Second-Team All-Pro honors. He signed a one-year veteran deal with the Bears last season to support rookie QB Caleb Williams, totaling 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. Allen played in his most games since 2021, missing only two contests, a productive season that proved he remains a reliable option for teams in need of receiving help. Durability, however, has long been Allen’s biggest concern.

He missed four games in 2023 and seven the year before. Still, his 2023 production was strong, totaling 108 receptions, 1,243 yards, and seven touchdowns, showing he can still be a high-volume contributor. If Miami reached out, Allen could provide Tua Tagovailoa with yet another proven target, helping the team stay competitive even without Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle on the field. However, realistically, signing Keenan Allen should be far down the Dolphins’ priority list. A team eyeing contention should be focused more on secondary help and adding depth to the offensive line.
