Dominguez’s Move to Lead Off Bears Fruit for the Yankees

MLB

The self-proclaimed smartest men in the room finally decided to use common sense. They finally placed top prospect Jasson Dominguez at the top of the lineup, and they were rewarded with an early fireworks show on America's birthday. It's sometimes better late than never. The 22-year-old out-homered Juan Soto, the highest-paid player in baseball, two to one, with both going to the opposite field. This was a move made from necessity as the Bronx Bombers have now lost five straight games and fallen to third place.

Why did the Yankees finally recognize the obvious? It comes down to pressure from non-establishment media sources. The fanbase has started listening to podcasters who report what they see and do not follow the narrative that mainstream media regurgitates. The Yankees wait until everything falls apart before acknowledging the issues that are discussed on these platforms. It forced them to start a player that they appeared not to cherish as much as they do Anthony Volpe. However, Jasson has proven to be as mentally tough as anyone on this team, no matter what negative thing was said about him from the organization. It mattered little when they decided to play him. Jasson contributed in small ways, and when added up, they totaled to success.

The choice of Jasson for this spot revolves around the traits of patience, power, and speed. The batting eye is excellent. He doesn't chase pitches, and his 31 walks and 67 hits in limited action see him on base often. Jasson has slowly built his average up to .271, which is third on the team. The power is there when desired, as eight home runs and 33 RBIs indicate. The speed is in the upper percentile of major leaguers and resulted in 39 runs scored and a team-leading 14 stolen bases.

Jasson is dynamic and has been a table setter no matter where he has hit. He has helped the offense when it lagged. The question of whether this is a commitment to change or just an experiment will be answered soon enough. The remainder of this series will tell you whether the Yankees are serious about making the necessary adjustments. They have been given a gift, but it remains to be seen if they will place it on the mantle in clear view or bring it out for special occasions only.
