Everything You Need to Know About the Winner of the 2025 AIG Women’s Open

Last Sunday, a new winner was crowned at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales. Miyu Yamashita, born in Neyagawa, Osaka, is the third Japanese player to win the 2025 AIG Women’s Open. Her game was impeccable and incredibly consistent. At the ninth, she was the first player to reach five-under-par. The amateur player shows incredible skill for someone so young. Since the week before, she had just turned 24.

The AIG Women’s Open, however, marks her first time playing and winning a tournament on the LPGA of America Tour. After all, she had just recently earned her spot with the LPGA of America in December of 2024. Whether she knew it or not, this marked a turning point in Yamashita’s career. After the AIG match, her rank jumped up from 15th to sixth. It was official. All eyes were on her.

Although Yamashita has been in the game for a while, most of her wins have taken place overseas. It may be hard to believe, but the Japanese player has been playing since she was five years old. She turned pro in 2020, the same year she also joined the LPGA of Japan Tour. In 2021, she recorded her maiden win at the 2021 KKT Cup Vantelin Ladies Open. From then on, she has been quite successful, recording a total of 13 wins, including three championships. This year, she has competed in 17 events.

In 2024, she competed in the Paris Olympics representing her home country of Japan. Her first time at the Olympics, she made quite the impression. She placed fourth in her event of Women’s Individual Stroke Play. After her win, she was finally seen as a serious competitor on the field by both her peers and rivals.

With nowhere to go but up, Yamashita’s career is heading in a promising direction. Winning $2.6 million on her first win does not seem to be a bad way to start. However, bigger things are on the horizon. As an amateur, there are still areas she can improve on, but for now, she can rest easy on top. Onlookers will just have to see where this talented young lady’s drive takes her.
