Father vs. Son: Who Becomes the ‘King of the Luchadores’?

WWE

This past Monday on Raw, Rey Mysterio returned for the first time in months after suffering an injury before WrestleMania XLI, confronting his son, Dominik Mysterio, after the current Intercontinental Champion called himself ‘King of the Luchadores’. Many expected ‘Dirty’ Dom’s next opponent to be the G.O.A.T. John Cena, since the Intercontinental Championship is the only title Cena has not won within his illustrious career. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, WWE may be pivoting towards Mysterio vs. Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship in their hometown of San Diego for Survivor Series: WarGames. Could the master of the 619 become a three-time Intercontinental Champion, or will the dirtiest player in the game get one over on his pops?

There’s also the possibility this match won’t even be for the IC title, but rather Dominik’s AAA Mega Championship. It’s doubtful the AAA Mega Championship is up for grabs since this will be one of WWE's biggest premium live events of the year, and now that it’s airing on ESPN, this championship being on the line becomes an even rarer occasion. So let’s say this father vs. son match is for the Intercontinental Championship, who gets the better of whom? While Dominik’s IC title run has heated up over the last several weeks, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the ‘Judgement Day’ disbands for good, or Dom becomes the new leader of the faction. If the writing shifts towards the idea of the ‘Judgement Day’ breaking up, it must be believed that ‘Dirty’ Dom will lose his Intercontinental Championship to his father. Especially what happened after the dirtiest player in the game cost Finn Balor and JD McDonagh their WWE World Tag Team Championships.

The crowd in San Diego would go absolutely bonkers to see this matchup happen at Survivor Series: WarGames. Two hometown legends, one father, one son, and one championship on the line. The feud between these two has occurred back and forth for the past three years, and yet now it seems like it’s at one of its most exhilarating points. Could we see this match announced as early as next week, when Monday Night Raw takes place in Boston, Massachusetts?
