Former BYU Walk-on Signs Two-Year Deal with Arizona Cardinals

NFL

Coming off a record-high touchdown season, Tyler Allgeier signs with the Arizona Cardinals on a two-year, $12.25 million deal. Coming out of high school, Allgeier had no major D1 offers despite running for 5,000 yards. Allgeier would formally walk-on at BYU from 2018-2021, playing as a linebacker and running back. He would eventually be drafted as the 151st pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft, having since formed a deadly backfield duo with Pro Bowl running back Bijan Robinson. The duo has rushed for a combined 40 touchdowns in the past three seasons, providing the Falcons with a versatile and explosive backfield.

NFL Career Highlights

Coming out of BYU, Allgeier would shine for the Falcons the moment he stepped on the field. In 2022, Allgeier would rush for 1,035 yards, setting the Falcons’ franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie. Ever since a stellar rookie season, Allgeier has gained a reputation as one of the most reliable running backs, holding the impressive record of never fumbling in a regular-season game throughout his career despite over 700 career carries and a highly physical running style. His physical running style makes him a nightmare for defenders, running over unsuspecting defenders, ranking in the top five of all NFL running backs in Yards After Contact per attempt, just under three.

What’s Next?

Allgeier’s physical ability has been a standout trait, allowing him to rack up 20 career touchdowns and helping him solidify himself as the RB2. Many have argued that Allgeier has earned the right to be the lead back on another team, with former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris publicly calling Allgeier "the least-talked about superstar on our football team." His reputation has since garnered interest from multiple NFL teams who desperately require his physical presence in the backfield. Allgeier has since decided to sign with the Cardinals, giving the soon-to-be 26-year-old the chance to further solidify himself as an NFL superstar. The former Falcon will join James Conner, who just re-worked his own contract so he could stay with the franchise. From walk-on to underrated superstar, Allgeier’s journey is far from finished as he starts another chapter with the Cardinals.
