Former NBA MVP Is Getting a New Documentary on Amazon
Ever since retiring from the league back in 2010, Allen Iverson has remained one of the most beloved and appreciated players in NBA history. Recently, Amazon Prime has announced a new documentary for the former NBA MVP. Teaming with Prime Video, Shaquille ‘O Neil and Stephen Curry, media companies Authentic Studios and Unanimous Media will collaborate to add their voices. It'll be directed by director One9, who has also directed Ice Man: A George Gervin Story, as well as the Nas Illmatic documentary. Shaq had previously said about Iverson. “After competing against Allen for many years, I’ve witnessed his greatness firsthand,” said Shaq.
Iverson was a shark in a little man's body in comparison to most NBA players. He almost always had people speechless with his relentlessness on the court and his non-apologetic attitude off it. Ushering in a completely new style into the NBA, he was also a trailblazer in his sense of fashion. It was seen as almost taboo in the NBA to have many tattoos, wear jewelry, and use durags, as well as style your hair into cornrows. Iverson took a lot of heat for it. He is basically the inspiration behind your favorite players' apparel in the game. The documentary will explore the exact nature of Iverson, not just the basketball legend we come to love.
Iverson sometimes gets flak for not winning a ring like many other legends before and after him. This never took away from him being one of the greatest point guards ever. He has been dubbed the nickname “The Answer” because when the 76ers needed one, he was always there in the clutch. The resurgence of NBA nicknames now paves the way to get into the origin of the Iverson nickname. Unfortunately, the answer never won an NBA championship, a fact that people sometimes bring up to this day. He led the 76ers to the NBA finals against the 2001 Lakers, who are one of the greatest teams of all time. There is a lot of history on and off the court to get into in Iverson's story, and it won't be the first time Iverson has had a documentary. Interesting to see how it'll differ from the others when it comes out on October 23rd of this year.
