Former Sixth Man of the Year Agrees to Stay with the Timberwolves

NBA

This past season, the Minnesota Timberwolves finished sixth in the Western Conference with a 49-33 record. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round and the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Semifinals to advance to their second straight Western Conference Finals. Even with all the adversity this T-Wolves team has faced over the course of the season, they could not overcome the Oklahoma City Thunder losing the series in five games. Even though Minnesota’s season ended in disappointment, the improvement of their former Sixth Man of the Year, Naz Reid, has been something to look forward to. Now a free agent, it’s been officially announced by Shams Charania that the 25-year-old center has signed a five-year $125 million deal to stay with the Timberwolves.

Reid started his career being undrafted during the 2019 NBA Draft. He signed a two-way contract with the T-Wolves’ NBA G-League affiliate team, the Iowa Wolves. He started off the season with Iowa, but made his NBA debut on December 8th, 2019, against the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, Reid and his career have never looked back. During the 2023 offseason, the 25-year-old center signed a three-year, $42 million extension with Minnesota. That upcoming season, Reid would go on to become the 2023-2024 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

The former Sixth Man of the Year played in 80 games this past season, averaging 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 28 minutes a game. During the NBA Playoffs, Reid played in 15 games and recorded 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 25 minutes. It’s surprising Reid did not get more minutes in the playoffs than he had during the regular season. He has been a crucial aspect to the team’s play during the 80 regular-season games he played in. The 25-year-old big man will hope to make another deep playoff run with the … this upcoming season.
