Former Third Round Pick Signs with Baltimore Ravens
On May 3rd, 2025, the Baltimore Ravens announced they have agreed to a contract with former Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Joseph Noteboom, but contract details have not yet been revealed. This signing comes a week after the Ravens drafted three rookies on the offensive line in the most recent NFL draft. The Ravens add more offensive line depth to a team that will never turn down the opportunity to test out every possible lineup combination to ensure the success of the franchise. Noteboom had some injury concerns in his past, only completing a healthy season twice, both while being a backup, but looks to turn it around with his new team in 2025.
Drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Rams, Joseph Noteboom began his career as a backup, taking reps behind Rodger Saffold, Rob Havenstein, and Andrew Whitworth. Saffold went on to play for the Titans after the 2018 season, opening the door for Noteboom to start at left guard in 2019. Noteboom started six games at left guard in 2019, before tearing his ACL and MCL, ending his season changing the focus to 2020. In a year where players had the option to opt out for COVID-19 concerns, Noteboom was ready to go until he was again placed on injured reserve, only starting nine of the 10 games he played in that season. In 2021, Noteboom was a healthy backup to a handful of younger players but ended up starting one postseason game, filling in for future Hall of Famer Andrew Whitworth at left tackle during the Rams’ 2021 Super Bowl run.
In 2022, Noteboom signed a three-year contract worth $40 million to be a starter on the front five, but ended up being part of the offensive line depth that teams wish to have in case of injury or regressing play from incumbent starters. Noteboom would miss his chance again to make a name for himself when he tore his Achilles in a Week Six win over the Carolina Panthers. Over the next two seasons, Noteboom would start in 12 of the 16 games he played in, with more injuries and another injured reserve stint caused by a Week One ankle injury in 2024. This injury fortunately did not end his season, but it was not enough for the Rams to bring him back for 2025.
Although the contract details have not been specified, I’m sure the Ravens did not overspend on someone who has been a perennial backup and, when given a chance, ends up getting hurt. On the other hand, the Ravens are an organization that will take a chance on a veteran who may have regressed or not been the poster child for success, allowing him to rewrite his story himself. That is what I think Noteboom is going to do with the Ravens. He may not start immediately, but he adds a veteran presence to the offensive line competition that will undoubtedly take place during thier 2025 Training Camp. The tackle and center positions are pretty locked up with Ronnie Stanley, Roger Rosengarten, and Tyler Linderbaum but the guard spots have been a huge question mark since Patrick Mekari, John Simpson, Josh Jones, and Kevin Zeitler all departed the team in recent years. Noteboom may not be the missing piece to the Super Bowl aspirations, but his contributions to the team will be felt more after training and learning the mentality of what it means to “Play Like a Raven”.
