Former WWE Speed Champion Released in a String of NXT September 2026 Cuts
Reports indicate a string of releases is happening in NXT. The first and only name to be confirmed thus far is former WWE Speed Champion, Jasper Troy. In these releases, apparently no main roster talent is being cut; only NXT talent is being let go. Troy won Season One of WWE LFG, earning him an NXT contract. However, he hasn’t been on television since June 9th, which probably indicated the former Speed Champion wouldn’t be with the company for much longer, especially if he wasn’t injured.
From this release, it’s even more telling that WWE LFG is a complete failure. Both Season One winners, Troy and Tyra Mae Steele or no longer with the company. The whole point of this show is finding talent that can be put on NXT immediately and rise to the occasion of becoming a WWE superstar. While the men’s winner for Season Two, Shiloh Hill, is finding success, the female winner of Season Two, Skylar Raye, hasn’t found nearly the same success Hill or even Troy has seen.
Season One of WWE LFG saw a determined Troy under the tutelage of two-time Hall of Famer Booker T. The former WWE Speed Champion was mentally and physically determined to win the NXT contract because of his wife and daughter. Once he won and debuted on NXT, we saw Troy confront ‘The Ruler’ Oba Femi and eventually win his first title against El Grande Americano. Now, he has become the first name in a string of NXT releases that may see him sign with another promotion down the road.
If Troy signs to any major promotion, it would either be with rival AEW or with WWE’s partners in TNA. Currently, there’s a bunch of former WWE talent in TNA, with the most recent being Zoey Stark, now Zoey Serrano, part of the company. Perhaps a fit with Total Nonstop Action will be right for Troy, or if AEW could use the former WWE Speed Champion in the right way, that could sway Troy’s decision as well. Wherever Troy signs, it’s on WWE that they let LFG’s Season One winner down, and WWE needs to ask themselves what’s the point of the show if the talent is not staying with the company.
