Four-Time NFL MVP Feels Good About His First Game with the Steelers

NFL

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is getting ready for his first game as a Steeler. The Steelers play the New York Jets on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Rodgers played for the Jets for the last two seasons. The Jets released him in March. After months of speculation about whether or not he would join the Steelers, Rodgers finally signed a one-year contract with the team on June 5th. Rodgers isn’t worried about facing his former Jets teammates. Rodgers said, “I feel good. I feel really good. I’ve got a lot of great people I work with in my off time. I had three days with my bodywork guy out West. I’m feeling really good.”

Rodgers’ teammates and coaches have been praising him during this offseason and preseason. Steelers safety DeShon Elliott remarked, “He’s making us better. I know for a fact we’re gonna be a better defense because of him.” Steelers quarterback coach Tom Arth commented, “I still think he’s at the top of his game. I think he’s a top quarterback in the league.” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Rodgers. He replied, “His arm talent is unbelievable, not only in terms of arm strength and accuracy, but also in his ability to release the ball from a variety of places. His game management expertise and experience is very evident. His line-of-scrimmage play, weaponizing of cadences, etc., his above-the-neck game, is very unique. It’s been a good process. Yet, the proof is in the pudding. I’m sure he’s excited to get into a stadium with us and quarterback for us, and I know I’m excited about seeing it.”

Rodgers is ready to lead the Steelers' offense in a game setting. He remarked, “I’ve been playing 20 years, so I know how to execute in a game situation.” Rodgers spoke about the Steelers' offense. He explained, “There are so many different guys that can do a lot of different things. Some little guys can run around and make plays inside and outside. You’ve got four very capable tight ends, you’ve got three very capable backs. You’ve got a really, really freaking smart center—who loves to correct me.  His backup loves to correct the quarterbacks even more. He usually goes after Mason Rudolph, but Ryan McCollum definitely—it’s some smart players right down the middle of the offense.” The majority of the country will be able to watch the Steelers take on the Jets on Sunday. The game will air on CBS. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. EST.
