Free Agent Lawrence Guy Lobbies for Steelers to Sign Him
There are still several free agent veterans available to sign. One of them would really like to sign with the Steelers. That free agent is former New England Patriots defensive lineman Lawrence Guy. Guy was a guest on “Good Morning Football” on May 16th. During his appearance on the show, Guy expressed his interest in joining the Steelers. “Good Morning Football” is a live NFL television program on NFL Network. Kyle Brandt, Jamie Erhdahl, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila are the hosts of the show.
The Steelers’ defensive line was a major concern this offseason. They addressed it by selecting defensive tackle Derrick Harmon and defensive end Yahya Black in this year’s NFL Draft. Harmon was chosen in the first round, and Black was chosen in the fifth round. Star defensive lineman Cam Heyward remains on the 2025 Steelers roster. The team cut Larry Ogunjobi. Ogunjobi signed with the Buffalo Bills. Guy believes that he would be the ideal fit for the Steelers defensive line with veteran Heyward and rookie Harmon. Guy likes the Steelers’ defensive culture. Guy said, “I'm a defensive guy, I need to go on defensive teams. And I understand there's a lot of things up in the air, but I would do it, I would go to Pittsburgh.” Guy added, “I love the organization.”
Guy played collegiate football for the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Green Bay Packers chose him in round seven of the 2011 NFL Draft. Guy played for various teams before joining the Baltimore Ravens. He played with the Ravens from 2014 to 2016 and the Patriots from 2017 to 2023. Guy played with the Patriots in Super Bowl LI in 2017. The Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons 34-28. Guy signed a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on September 17, 2024. However, the team released him on November 2nd. Throughout his career, Guy has amassed 507 tackles and 17 sacks. He’s also defended nine passes, had six fumble recoveries, and had two forced fumbles. It will be interesting to see if Guy’s lobbying to join the Steelers catches the team’s attention enough for them to add him to their roster this year.
