Georgia Tech College Baseball Rises in the Power 10 Rankings as Conference Play Begins

Georgia Tech has announced itself this past week as a legitimate contender in the 2026 college baseball season. The Yellow Jackets climbed to third in the Power 10 rankings after a run-rule win over West Georgia and a series victory, the program's first road series win at Doug Kingsmore Stadium since 2016. First-year head coach James Ramsey has the Yellow Jackets at 20-1, outscoring opponents 254-83, the most runs through 20 games in program history. The Yellow Jackets set a Power Four BBCOR-era record with 280 hits in 20 games, leading Division I in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, runs, and walks.

Junior catcher Vahn Lackey has been the most prominent player on the Yellow Jackets' roster. In the 14-0 run-rule win over West Georgia, Lackey became the first player in Georgia Tech history to play eight different positions in a single game, a skill accomplished only by a handful of Division I players ever. Lackey also went three-for-four with a double, a triple, and his seventh home run. The week earned him ACC Player of the Week Honors after he slashed .600 with a .667 on-base percentage, as well as a 1.467 slugging percentage across four games. Ranked as the 12th overall prospect in the upcoming MLB Draft per MLB Pipeline, Lackey is rising to the occasion when it matters most.

The Yellow Jackets have more recognized talent in their roster that will be exciting to watch in the upcoming games. Junior second baseman Jarren Advincula is a preseason All-American and one of the national top second basemen, projecting as an early draft selection. A transfer from the California Golden Bears, in his sophomore campaign, he led the team in hits, doubles, at-bats, and stolen bases. Similarly, third baseman Ryan Zuckerman anchors the middle of the order with power and consistency. A transfer from the Pittsburgh Panthers, his sophomore campaign consisted of 16 doubles, 13 home runs, and 48 RBIs, and a .914 fielding percentage in the hot corner. Georgia Tech is scoring 12.7 runs per game, surpassing the previous program record of 10.3 runs per game.

Looking ahead, the schedule will only get more difficult, but Georgia Tech is ready. Upcoming matchups against fourth-ranked Auburn and a road series at Pittsburgh will further test their skills. If the Yellow Jackets can sustain their streak, their chances in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament are real, and the Men's College World Series in Omaha is within reach. The Yellow Jackets are creating elite players, and they will rely on Vahn Lackey’s abilities to push forward. Coach Ramsey’s squad is rewriting the Georgia Tech baseball record books and creating historic performances.
