Giants Wide Receiver Focus Is Back with Big Blue
OTAs have been underway for the last few weeks. The New York Giants’ wide receiver room has really been standing out; however, much of the focus has been on one person in particular on the field, Jalin Hyatt. This wide receiver is already showing much promise and has become the player who has been needed to be watched during this offseason. Mandatory minicamps are about to start, and many around the franchise are hoping that he becomes a player who is able to make a breakout this year.
The last few years haven't been great for him. In his rookie year, he leaned heavily on his speed to get the ball moving down the field. Last season, there was a decrease in his involvement and very few explosive plays from him. He started in 16 games and had a total of eight receptions for 62 yards. It got so bad for him last season that during the offseason, the franchise contemplated putting him on the chopping block to be traded away somewhere else. However, the franchise made the decision to make this year a “Prove it” year for him.
During the 2024 season, he seemed to have checked out. He didn’t get the chance to start much due to how he had been playing. Hyatt has made it a point to put his focus back into playing football again and get himself back on track. The Giants are trying to emphasize the skills that he has and really want him to work harder this coming season. The 23-year-old wide receiver has been building much chemistry with the team's veteran quarterback, Russell Wilson, already. During the Giants’ OTAs, Hyatt has completed multiple passes from his new Super Bowl champion quarterback. Hyatt has shown flawless catches, such as a shoulder snag near the sidelines and making a touchdown during seven-on-seven drills.
The bottom line for Hyatt is that he is already thriving with all of the changes that have been made to the team this offseason. He’s making the catches and forging more connections with the team's starting quarterback. The only difference is that OTAs still involve no contact, so there is some room for questioning about him. He’s already stated several sources that he is someone to definitely keep an eye on during the mandatory minicamps that are coming up. However, if he keeps it up for the preseason and the regular season, he is sure to have his breakout season this year.
