Gotham FC to Defend Home Field Against KC Current

Gotham FC will face the Kansas City Current on Saturday, June 7th at 1:00 p.m. EST, at the Sports Illustrated Stadium, the Gotham FC home field. Gotham FC will look to improve its record this season and propel itself into the top eight teams that qualify for the championship playoff, and the Current looks to maintain their number one spot in the league. Objectively, the KC Current has been the strongest team in the National Women’s Soccer League, which shows in their dominance of the table. Gotham FC must put their entire team's efforts into defending their home field against the strong Current.

In their last five matches, Gotham FC have sent the ball to the back of their opponent's goal four times. However, these goals only came from two matches, since they have yet to score in the last three matches. Opposite of this, the Current have scored 10 goals in their last five matches and have kept the most clean sheets in the league. A player to watch on the Current is Michelle Cooper, who has been the biggest chance creator on the team and tied in the league for the same statistic. Kennedy Wesley also tops the league in most accurate passes per 90 minutes, which is sure to create turmoil for a weaker Gotham FC side.

This match also happens to be their pride match of the season and will be preceded by fan activities and celebrations on the premises. It is predicted to have a large turnout with fans coming together not only to celebrate a home game for Gotham but also to kick off Pride Month. Kansas City Current has given fans high-scoring matches, and it is in Gotham’s best interest to maintain a heavy defensive style of play and isolate players like Cooper, Temwa Chaŵinga, and Debinha, who have all created chances, and the latter two are in the top eight highest scorers in the league. Kansas City does have to watch out for Gotham’s Esther González, who is currently the second in the league for goals with seven.

Women’s sports, especially in the United States, have been undermined and mistaken for lackluster when they are anything but. The game is predicted to be high scoring due to both teams' attacks having stacked players who have continued to give the fans what they want. The stakes of the game are high as one team is playing to keep their championship hopes alive, and the other is playing to continue their dominance in the league. Will Gotham FC be able to defend their home field, or will the KC Current rip through the stadium and leave them hopeless?
