How a Three-Time Pro-Bowl Nose Tackle Can Be a Better Asset for the Giants in the 2026 Season
Dexter Lawrence has had a couple of rough seasons playing for the New York Giants. It hasn’t been easy for him the last few seasons. The three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle has been doing most of the work on the defensive line. He has had Brian Burns and Abdul Carter to work with him, but it wasn't enough to make a difference this past season. However, this coming season, Lawrence may play a bit differently than he has in the past.
The Giants have no desire to trade away this nose tackle in the 2026 season. He is a particularly strong asset to the team. Big Blue knows he is the biggest piece of the puzzle, and letting him go would be a mistake. Since New York drafted him in 2019, he has worked hard to protect the line and help make this defensive line better. Over his career, he has recorded over 300 total tackles, more than 30 sacks, and nearly 100 quarterback hits while consistently anchoring the defensive line.
His breakout came in 2022 with 7.5 sacks, followed by a career-high nine sacks in 2024 despite playing only 12 games. Lawrence has earned multiple Pro Bowl selections and back-to-back Second-Team All-Pro honors. The three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle has proven his impact goes beyond traditional stats. Known for his ability to command double teams and still disrupt plays, he remains a cornerstone of the Giants' defense. An area that New York has struggled in for a while, but this season, he has something much better to work with.
With the Giants' new head coach, John Harbaugh, coming in, he is rewriting schemes all over the place, especially on defense. Last season, New York ranked 26th in defensive rating. Lawrence is still a younger player, and with Harbaugh rebuilding, the three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle will get better at attacking. Harbaugh should expect him to be a game wrecker this year because he can move fast and disrupt as many snaps as possible.
The three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle will be expected to use more hand movements when making the stops. If Harbaugh can rework the rest of the defensive schemes, we will see Lawrence come in to up his sack numbers once again. It won’t only be Burns this season, but the 28-year-old will definitely play a role as well. Lawrence needs help all around, which will be a major factor in why he will be a better nose tackle this coming season.
This Pro Bowler is also the heart and soul of the defensive line. Lawrence has been the main guy since he came in. The three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle has shown a ton of leadership on the defensive line and has consistently raised the stakes for Big Blue. This matters because it will be higher snap intensity and better communication for the Giants. He has set the tone for the entire front seven and will continue to do so this coming season. Lawrence doesn't just play well. He elevates everyone else on the team, and he will be ready for a better year.
