How Alvin Kamara and Devin Neal Will Boost the Saints Rushing Attack

NFL

Throughout his eight-year career, watching Alvin Kamara’s play on the field has been a pleasure for New Orleans Saints fans. The “Who Dat” nation has been fortunate to watch this established member of the team who has shown his commitment to his teammates by doing his best whenever he’s given the football. Even though this recent season of a 5-12 record would like to be forgotten, one of the highlights of every game was to see the talent and coordination of this player. During ’24 and ’25, Mr. Kamara had a career high of 950 yards gained rushing and a third-highest of 228 rushing attempts. He scored six TDs during the season, which was the most he’s made in a season since ’21, which probably would’ve been higher had his team not had a “rotating door” of quarterbacks.

Let’s continue to look at his performance from this recent season. Out of the 14 games he played, of course, he started every one of them, which is always a good morale boost for fans. Week One set a great positive tone for the season due to their initial win with his performance in the 37-point deficit over the Panthers. In Week Two, he earned the impressive award of “NFC Offensive Player of the Week” because of his leading the team’s victory over the Cowboys. Even with the games resulting in a loss, he still did his part to help the offense, for example, in Week Eight, in which he still put up some yardage, although the win went to the Chargers. His absence from the field was definitely felt, particularly when he was out from injuring his groin during the Week 14 game against the Commanders, which likely contributed to the offense’s lack of scoring any points in the following week against the Packers. A team shouldn’t have to rely on one player scoring the points, and that player shouldn’t have to be burdened with that responsibility, which is why it’s crucial, especially for your quarterback, to have another comparably good running back on the field.

Fortunately, during last week’s draft, Mr. Devin Neal was picked up in the sixth round by New Orleans. His stats indicate he spent his entire college football career at Kansas, where he played as a running back. From the 49 games he played in four years, he had 760 rushing attempts, which he increased season-over-season, had 4,343 yards gained rushing, and scored 49 rushing touchdowns, with 16 of them alone scored in his final season with the Jayhawks. Mr. Neal had 711 receiving yards from 77 receptions, with four of those resulting in touchdowns. From these numbers alone, Devin has the potential for an incredible professional football career. With Alvin Kamara as his co-running back on the field, there may be no stopping these two from scoring multiple touchdowns every quarter. Even if Mr. Neal’s contribution in the upcoming season is being trained and mentored by Mr. Kamara, we may see another established Saints running back and career player.
