How Long Can the Yankees Continue Their Winning Streak?
The 2025 season has been a roller coaster for the New York Yankees, full of injuries, a lack of consistency, and the inability to beat teams in their own division. When it looked like the Yankees were going to lose out on the American League East title, it looked like there was a chance that they could also miss out on one of the three Wild Card spots. After the team lost a series to the Boston Red Sox last weekend, it looked like the season could be ending a little earlier than fans would hope. Since that series, the Yankees have won seven in a row against the Red Sox, Washington Nationals, and Chicago White Sox. While their win streak has come against teams that aren’t the most successful, a win streak like this is something the Yankees haven’t been able to do much this season.
Over this stretch of games, the Yankees have excelled in scoring runs and pitching well. After scoring a combined four runs in the first three games of the series against the Red Sox, the Yankees have since scored a combined 58 runs. In contrast, they have only allowed 19 runs. The Yankees currently have five players who have over 20 home runs, and Anthony Volpe and Austin Wells are both only one home run away from joining that group. If the team were to get to eight, they would break a team record that was set in 2019. In addition to a home run record, this streak is giving the Yankees a chance to catch up to the Toronto Blue Jays in the standings. As of right now, the team is only two games behind.
The only question that remains for the Yankees right now is if they can keep this streak going for as long as it takes to overtake the Blue Jays. While the team has dominated against the teams they should win against, they have struggled against teams in the playoff hunt. After the series against the White Sox ends, they will travel to face the Houston Astros, followed by the Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, and the Red Sox. While only time will tell if the Yankees will be able to keep up the winning, they will need to be moderately competitive against these teams if they want to remain in the playoff hunt and be a formidable team in September.
