How the Giants Could Unleash the NFL’s Most Dangerous Pass Rush in 2026
The New York Giants are set to play the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, September 13th for the first Sunday Night Football of the 2026 season. The Giants' defensive line is looking pretty hot and ready to take on whatever is thrown their way this season. The team has spent time filling openings that should have been closed long ago. This defensive line is also looking for a new identity, and they seem to have found it. Having Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux teaming up this season under new defensive coach Dennard Wilson, it’s about to get nasty on the football field.
Big Blue has a legitimate reason to believe that its pass rush will be off the charts this season. Burns is coming off a season in 2025 when he had 16.5 sacks. He has also forced several fumbles against other teams, which is big for New York because the Giants have had very few in recent times. New York's top pass rusher is considered to be a monster and someone that most quarterbacks don’t want to deal with. The Florida State Product has also been someone head coach John Harbaugh has been keeping an eye on in his pass rush, so the Giants have a team that can actually pull through.
Carter is entering year two for Big Blue. Last season was a bit of a struggle for him because he could not pull it together to make plays happen for the team. With the staff having changed, this first-round pick has been tasked with making a difference and bringing the heat for the team. The explosive pass rusher has the possibility of being a breakout candidate in 2026. His rookie numbers consisted of 43 tackles, four sacks, and two forced fumbles. The former Penn State standout is a top-tier player when he puts his mind to it. This season, with a brand-new staff and an upgraded defensive line, the young defensive playmaker may also be another scary player for Big Blue to have on their line ahead of the season.
Lastly, Thibodeaux is considered a wild-card pass rusher for his team. The Giants have been up and down on where he stands on the team. However, when he does play, the former first-round pick pulls through to help the Giants end the play. This year may be a bounce-back year for the veteran. In 2025, he had only 2.5 sacks in his last 10 games. If the defensive playmaker can be better this season, this may be a very hard pass-rushing team for 2026 opponents to handle.
This team may lead the league in pass rushing this season if these three work together properly. Each of them may have to figure it out with the others this season. It’s a brand new season, and New York has a lot to prove, especially on the defensive end of the team. It won’t be easy, but as long as they meet the team's needs, they shouldn’t have any issues. This pass-rushing team will hopefully be even more monstrous this coming season.
