How the Giants Star Wide Receiver's Minor Injury Brings Immediate Concern to the Giants

NFL

The New York Football Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is ready for another season in the Meadowlands. However, it comes with a cost after having a fantastic breakout season last year. He’s been running hot and making all of the plays during training camp. Nabers has been the guy that most of the team has turned to when it has to make touchdowns. The 22-year-old has a major breakout season in his rookie year and has brought more to the Giants’ offensive line with every game that he has played.

In the past few days, though, injuries have been popping up all over the NFL. Unfortunately, Nabers ended up being one of the players with injuries. The Giants are remaining as optimistic as possible. New York is trying to get him healthy so he can be a part of the explosive plays this season. Big Blue is hoping that he is going to be alright before the preseason begins in just a few short weeks.

In Tuesday's practice, Nabers left day six of training camps after appearing to hurt his left shoulder. They were practicing run drills, and he landed awkwardly after being stopped. He just hung out there for a moment, and moments later, he walked off the field with the Giants trainers for evaluation. They believe that it’s nothing serious and the Giants are going to monitor him for the next few days following the initial evaluation. This minor injury comes at a really bad time for the team, too.

Nabers is a big part of the offensive line. If he is going to sit out and the injury is worse than it actually is, the Giants need to figure something out and fast. He was establishing perfect timing with both Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart. The chemistry between all of them is there. Nabers will most likely sit out the following day's practice. He will miss padded practice, which is concerning because it limits reps for Dart and Wilson to take hits at a padded practice. The pressure will really be there to get the ball out quicker, and they will have to find someone else to put their trust in.

The other area to look at with Nabers is the lingering toe issues that he has had going on since his days at LSU. There has been discussion of surgery, but the team is currently monitoring and seeing pain management. Daboll has indicated a readiness to modify how Nabers practices if need be to keep him on the field. The 22-year-old still moves like a monster when he gets the chance to, so it’s not something they are concerned about. They will just check in on him day to day.

The Giants are going to watch him for the rest of the week and throughout most of the season. There should be no doubt that he should be okay to play. Nabers only went out for a few weeks last season with a concussion, but he bounced back without a problem. He is marked as a true playmaker, and the possibility of not having him there to play already sinks part of the season in the Meadowlands. Nabers wants to be the guy to make the plays and fix what happened last season when the Giants ended their season at 3-14. He is determined to play this season at 100 percent.
